Lyrics for All Things Must Pass as interpreted by Ice

All Things Must Pass Lyrics
Sunrise doesn't last all morning
A cloudburst doesn't last all day
Seems my love is up
And has left you with no warning
But it's not always going
To be this grey

All things must pass
All things must pass away

Sunset doesn't last all evening
A mind can blow those clouds away
After all this my love is up
And must be leaving
It has not always
Been this grey

All things must pass
All things must pass away

All things must pass
None of life's strings can last
So I must be on my way
And face another day

Now the darkness only stays at nighttime
In the morning it will fade away
Daylight is good
At arriving at the right time
It's not always
Going to be this grey

All things must pass
All things must pass away
All things must pass
All things must pass away

I think this song means that good things are wonderful, but they don't last forever. It reminds me of Robert Frost's poem "Nothing Gold Can Stay".

This isn't actually a Beatles song... it only appeared on the Anthology because George tried a demo of it during a Beatle session, the other Beatles shot it down, and he went on to perform it for a solo album.

kthnx.

This song is a song of goodbyes, kind of like the Beatles saying good bye. Although they were great together sooner or later they had to end. It was like they were saying good bye to each other.

This is actually not a Beatles song, but basically I agree with all the statements above. All good things sometimes come to an end.

the meaning is pretty obvious but the true beauty here lies in its simplicity and the way he delivers the news. he accepts beauty and appreciates it because he knows that it, like all other things, is doomed

A beautiful song and a perfect reflection on George, his fearlessness, wisdom and his pure acceptance of death as a part of life.

Let me guess.... theyll have imagine on the beatles pages too?

Idk if it bothers anyone else, but it bothers me when people mix up songs from their solo careers and when they were the beatles

I'm sure that Harrison's lyrics here later applied to the breakup of the Beatles, but I don't think they were the intention. This song was yet another wonderful attempt of Harrisons to find spiritual Nirvana. See: My Sweet Lord, Here Comes The Sun, Give Me Love, etc. etc.

If you're looking for a George Harrison song that IS about the Beatles breakup and was written explicitly about it, I suggest "Isn't It A Pity".

So you mean this song is George Harrison's?

Actually, this song made my fear of death lessen. Which is very valuable because I'm SO scared to die.

Yep, this is one of Georges.

In fact, there's a scene in Let It Be the film where he's doing a demo cut. He even named his first solo album after this song. Probably his best, I think.

Oh yeah. That's why I'm really puzzled. My sister told me that George Harrison has an album called All Things Must Pass. And i was pleasantly surprised (and puzzled) to see this song in the list of The Beatles' songs. I'd love to have that album. Unfortunately, this was the only George Harrison song I know. Unlucky me.

Actually, several of the Beatles' biggest hits were his: Something, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Here Comes The Sun, and Taxman. He also had what I would consider the second-best post-Beatle period of all four (John being first).

Actually, I think that it's not exactly that all good things will end. It's more just that, as the title says, _all_ things must pass. The good things we have will eventually fade away, but so will the bad.

Oh, you misunderstood me. It was my fault.

What I mean to say is, 'All Things Must Pass' is the only song that I know George Harrison composed as a solo writer. :) Thanks, anyway.

And erasmus, I agree with you. All those things will pass. Pleasant and unpleasant things. But you will still be okay somehow.

Though not an official beatles song, it's nice how it manages to straddle the line and be regarded as a beatle song and a george harrison one. Great song and I don't know how they could have denied its inclusion on their last albums.

The reason it is on here is it was on the beatles' past masters volume 2 album.

I don't think it is on Past Masters, but the Beatles actually recorded several takes of the song during the Let It Be sessions which are available on bootlegs. Also George's Feb. 1969 demo is on Anthology 3. I've read that John gave George the line "A mind can blow those clouds away" during these sessions too. The Beatles I think were unsure of how to arrange it; actually the song ended up getting Phil Spectored on the All Things Must Pass Album (the best version is probably George's demo).

Yes, Harrison wrote the song, but the Beatles did practice it as a group during the Get Back sessions, so it's as much as "Harrison solo song" as any of the ones he wrote for the band. Yes, he went back and released a different version as a single, and on this version it's just him performing. But Paul McCartney is the only Beatle who performs on "Yesterday," and we don't consider that a Paul McCartney song. "All Things Must Pass" is listed on a Beatles page because the Anthology version can be considered a Beatles version of the song (yes, even though Harrison is the only person performing).

As for the song, I think the Anthology version is far better than Harrison's solo version (which is too layered for such a simple song--if you haven't heard the anthology version, I promise, you'll change your mind). And I agree it's about the way joy is temporary, "all good things must come to an end," etc., but pay attention to the last verse. It's also hopeful: "Daylight is good about arriving at the right time. It's not always gonna be this grey." Interestingly, in the alternate version, Harrison says "It's not always been this grey," which actually isn't as hopeful.

I actually prefer the Beatles Anthology version to George's solo version, just seems much more poignant, and seems to carry more emotion

While the Anthology version is certainly an inspired recording by George, the official release was sooo good to be bypassed. One of George's best ever!

I also really love the demo George recorded on february 25th, 1969 that appears on the Anthology. He also laid down eloquent versions of something and old brown shoe.

This song is definitely about the duality of life, the first verse establishes that all good must come to an end (and therefore have a genesis to begin with) and the last verse establishes that all bad must come to an end (and of course, also have a genesis.) Greatly symbolic song.
