In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version.

To understand the song better one must watch the official video. The video shows madonna in death valley. she is presented as gothic witch. 1 in 3 or 3 in one. Video is very creepy and watching it one can understand it is anything but love.

This song is about Satan's despair about losing the game against God. He needs as many humans as possible allied in his cause to avoid punishment. So he cries out: "Give yourself to me You hold the key". You have to be naive to think that such a powerful work of art is just about a couple with domestic problems. Nothing at the level of thinking required to create such a work of art is by chance. This is obviously inspired if you know what i mean.

I am not a religious person and I don't really like saying I'm a spiritual person. I This song is very seductive and it's meant to be. All Satan ever wanted was for you to give yourself to it. It is a cancerous consciousness saying "Love me, follow me, I will give you whatever you want but I need you to follow me." It will suffer if it loses your soul and everything in this universe it the key to that. Very true. Satan will come in the name of God/LOVE and tell you how much it loves you. It will use anything good that LOVE made to get what it wants. It will give you pleasure and protect you from pain. Pain and pleasure are irrelevant next to the LOVE of God, and one will never know what that is until one experience it for one's self. I would never be able to explain it to anyone it's that good. Satan is a cancerous energy that exists in scalar reality from almost the highest level of LOVE to something smaller than the DNA in our bodies, so it is everywhere. It controls all the media, all academia, all religious and organized spiritual groups, all governments, and sad to say most music. I know what this song does to me as I love it. It's the strangest thing being seduced.

I am not sure I understand, I would love someone to explain it to me, it sounds interesting! I think that Lucifer or Satan can deceive but I am not sure what kind of love you are talking about? I think that when a love comes from God it isn't difficult to discern. The pure love of God is uplifting, it reaches to your soul or heart, but I have never known Lucifer to be Love, however I may not have had the same experiences as some, I would really love someone to explain that to me, it is interesting!
May I say that I do not see Lucifer controlling all religions. Some religions are good. I have met different people from different religions and have met in their churches and have felt the positive energy. I am too religious and definitely feel the love of Christ and his light. I don't mean to preach on here, but the more I grow in my religion, the more I love people and want to uplift them, this is what it inspires and influences me to do.
There is still a lot of good music, and let us not forget that any public person will have more challenges, depression, pressure.... because of how much good they can do, and how much they can influence others. As much as I hate politics, I see a need to pray for our leaders for this reason, and to also pray for those who create music, films... but instead we are critical and I am putting myself first in it!

I think this song is not about love at all.. maybe that's what the close-minded people think. It's about giving yourself to the devil. Everyone knows madonna is a free-mason and practices dark magic. In this song she's kind of saying "Join the dark side" (Give yourself to me) She's performing some sort of a ritual for or on behalf of her "lord". Transforming herself into the black crows and dogs is exactly what the Jins can do. I must admit, the song does hold some appeal to me. its kind of catchy but its very satanic.
