The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. I think this song talks about a guy who was seeing this girl, whose youth was full of abuse. The man talks about how fast life passes amd emphsaizes it with the sun and the moon. This song is actually about Geri Halliwell formerly of Spice Girls. They spent a summer together in 2002 in the south of france (there were lots of pics in the papers at the time).

I agree with Caz1981, this song was rumoured to be written about that summer they share and how close they had become, even when they later grew apart, which is sad because Robbie doesn't seem to keep his beloved one for long. When he talks about Eternity, off course he doesn't mention Geri -who also holds a heavy past-, but he does mention spending one of his happiest holidays with new friends...and that songs describes it...describes friendship in such a touching way, the way I used to felt for my former special friend, back then in 2001 :'(
