When I wake up well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who wakes up next to you
When I go out yeah I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who goes along with you

If I get drunk well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who gets drunk next to you
And if I haver yeah I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who's havering to you

But I would walk 500 miles
And I would walk 500 more
Just to be the man who'd walk a 1,000 miles
To fall down at your door

When I'm working yes I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who's working hard for you
And when the money comes in for the work I'll do
I'll pass almost every penny on to you

But I would walk 500 miles
And I would walk 500 more
Just to be the man who'd walk a 1,000 miles
To fall down at your door

When I come home oh I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who comes back home to you
And if I grow old well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who's growing old with you

But I would walk 500 miles
And I would walk 500 more
Just to be the man who'd walk a 1,000 miles
To fall down at your door

When I'm lonely well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who's lonely without you
When I'm dreaming yes I know I'm gonna dream
Dream about the time when I'm with you

When I go out well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who goes along with you
When I come home yes I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who's coming home with you

But I would walk 500 miles
And I would walk 500 more
Just to be the man who'd walk a 1,000 miles
To fall down at your door

General Comment:2 greatest romantic anthems ever (hmm, cant really think of that many 'romantic anthems'): 1) this song, 2) Whole Wide World by Wreckless Eric...if you like this one listen to that too!

General Comment:i don't think the meaning of this song is quite as obvious as people are making it out to be. this isn't a ''I WOULD DO ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING FOR YOU'' type of love song to me. i'm reading it as like "i would walk you home at night, i would party with you, i would even grow old with you, but i can't say i would do everything for you - i'm not completely self-sacrificing." that's why leading into the chorus he says i would do this and that BUT i would walk 500 miles and i would walk 500 more JUST TO BE THE MAN WHO WOULD walk 1000 miles to fall down at your door. the ''but'' and ''would'' in that chorus implies that he's NOT that man, and he can't be, but he can try his best. it could be that he can't satisfy her every emotional need or he's not romantic enough, but he wishes he was.
