Lyrics for 86 as interpreted by Ice

86 Lyrics
What brings you around
Did you lose something
The last time you were here
You'll never find it now
It's buried deep
With your identity

So stand aside and let the next one pass
Don't let the door kick you in the ass
There's no return from 86
There's no return from 86
There's no return from 86
There's no return from 86
Don't even try

Exit out the back
And never show your head around again
Purchase your ticket
And quickly take the last train
Out of town

So stand aside and let the next one pass
Don't let the door kick you in the ass
There's no return from 86
There's no return from 86
There's no return from 86
There's no return from 86
Don't even try

There's no return from 86
There's no return from 86
There's no return from 86
There's no return from 86
Don't even try

When someone is banned from a club, they call it 86. Green Day were banned from a club, I forget the story, but they wrote this song about it.

i guess its about a club... i dont kno. hahaha thats my name. w/e. um, but i found out today that sometimes they mark your time card at work with an "86" if you're fired. but i guess it pretty much means the same thing in the song. like nerdypunkchick says: when its over...its over and just move on.

i thought this song was about they year 86, like maybe it was a bad time in his life and he needed to move on and forget about it. but the club thing seems more likely. ah well. feck it.

They pretty much got exiled from the Gilman ST club. They were called sellouts and on the wall the words "death to billie joe" were on it. in late 2001, the band played a set at Gilman for the first time in about 9-10 years using instruments from other bands. They played all old songs, and people liked it. So much for "there's no return from 86"

the Gilman ST club wall said "BILLIE JOE MUST DIE" on the wall...BJ found this out after sneeking into the place after their success.

on this website: http://alt-usage-english.org/excerpts/fxeighty.html it says that 86 is slang for the word nix which in resturaunts refers to when a food item has been "sold out"

I live in Berkeley CA where the 924 Gilman club is.
(It sucks anyway, it's a bunch of 14 high school wannabe goth kids)
Last time Green Day played there a huge group of people tried to beat them up and some one lit their drums on fire!
Same thing happened pretty much when Jello Biafra from Dead Kennedys tried to come back.
It's a crying shame if you ask me.

Ok, here's what happened... Green Day was never banned. Billie Joe was banned along with all the members of Pinhead Gunpowder. They were caught drinking in the bathroom and told to leave. All the other members (excluding billie joe) showed up to a Gilman meeting and begged to be allowed back. As far as the "Bille Joe Must Die" on the wall, that was because people considered him a sellout. But who fucking cares, Green Day has played there since Billie Joe got 86'd.

Once Billie said in an interview that he had a one night stand with a girl and he felt really bad about it. Thats where he get's the lines "Did you lose something
The last time you were here
You'll never find it now
It's buried deep
With your identity"

You guys are morons. This song is about Mike and Billie being thrown out of Gilman, the one place they could be themselves, and what they called home. The people their called them sell outs because they got big, and they wern't the same anymore. This song is a big fuck you, we don't like you anymore, so get the fuck out of here.

When green day signed with reprise, the local punks at gillman street considered that selling out and wouldnt let green day play in their clubs. But the most punk thing for them to do would be not to listen to anyone and just do what they think is right.

Well jeepers creepers, what a wild bunch ive come across (and not in a good way). You should all be fired from life. This song has about as much appeal as the elephant man. The overall sound of this song reminds me of robocop having sex with a banshee (in a place of ill repute if i may be so blaz'e about it). Im viciously dissapointed that a fellow "human" as i will described you all in inverted commers would want to know the meaning of this song. And minfin theres no easy way of saying this but BillieJoe wouldnt even give you a second look, i also dont know why youd want one as he sounds very close to what most level headed citizines would considered a hillbilly. Goodnight and love to you all.
p.s on a lighter note slow__hands and mikus_fikus rule songmeanings.net. Boo-Yah.
