I came and saw you left the light on
There was no one home at all
Couldn't wait to get your clothes on
Shouldn't come around to call on you

The taste was sweet and you delivered
I didn't know I would feel so high
Well, I guess we didn't have to kill her
But don't feel so bad though

You looked her in the eye
And I watched her cry
And my mouth went dry
Everyone is going to have to die sometime

My mouth is clean, my hands are dirty
Heaven isn't on my side
Well, if it was, then she'd have hurt me
Didn't think this through

But, I didn't have the time
To perfect my crime
I drank my wine
Everything is going to be just fine

I don't know, I don't love, (you're alone, you're alone) I don't know
Anyone like me

I'm not heaven sent
I'm not heaven sent
But I'm broken and bent

My mouth went dry
As I watched her cry
Everyone has to, gets to die
But not on my time not on this girl's time
Fucked if it's my time (fucked if it's my time)
Not on my time(this is all fucked up)

General Comment:I think sleepy is right. I believe Esthero is talking about having an affair with a married man or a man with a girlfriend. The lyrics are pretty obvious to that.

General Comment:The song is clearly inspired by (if not directly referencing) Canada's famous serial killer couple: Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka. The lyrics are sung from the Karla Homolka's disjointed and hypocritical point of view.

Paul and Karla lured young women back to their house where they both engaged in drugging, raping, and then murdering their victims. During the investigation and then at the trial, Karla and Paul gave conflicting accounts. Paul claimed that Karla was a willing participant and encouraged him to kill the young women. Karla claimed that Paul had abused her for years and brainwashed her into doing anything he said. Paul was eventually convicted and sentenced to life without parole...but Karla was convicted of lesser charges and received a much lighter sentence.

The most disturbing aspect of the trial was that if Paul's account of events was accurate (and it's interesting that he didn't try to distance himself from the events like Karla did) then Karla was probably the more dangerous of the two.

The lyrics are brilliant in that they vacillate back and forth between someone who is actively involved in a killing, but is also wrapped up in distancing herself from that reality...before finally giving up and giving into her base nature. The lyrics seem to mirror both Karla Homolka's claim that she was not responsible for the murders and the prevailing sentiment that she was as much a monster as Paul.

My Interpretation:Sounds like the narrator is having an affair with a married man in my opinion.

I came and saw you left the light on
There was no one home at all
(His wife or family is out of the house.)
Couldn't wait to get your clothes on
Shouldn't come around to call on you
(He's quick to kick her out of the house before his wife gets home, and she can't ask him for anything.)

The taste was sweet and you delivered
I didn't know I would feel so high
    (Sort of obvious...)
Well, I guess we didn't have to kill her
But don't feel so bad though
(I think killing her is symbolic for destroying the wife's life, and the lack of guilt she has for it.)

You looked her in the eye
    And I watched her cry
    And my mouth went dry
(I think that this is referring to a confrontation between the wife and husband about the affair that she witnessed.)
Everyone is going to have to die - sometime
(Everyone is going to lose their innocence, and its the wife's time.)

    I'm not heaven sent
    I'm not heaven sent
    But I'm broken and bent
(Makes me think she wants a normal, loving, pure relationship but she's got herself caught up in this destructive affair and she feels damaged.)

That's just what I thought of when I first listened to the lyrics.
In general it seems like the narrator is finally feeling the guilt and the immensity of what she's done. Possibly from seeing the wife cry.

General Comment:Sorry- its been a long time since I've heard about the case I just posted above, so I went back and re-read the case. They may have been the same age but they didn't get caught untill they went into the academy. He had the affair early in their relationship. Still, the point is they killed her together and I think the song came out of all the media surrounding the event.

General Comment:Has anyone ever hear of the the Texas Cadet Murder Case? Diane Zamora & David Graham were high school sweethearts and the two of them planned to go the air force academy after school. Zamora was older so she went first. While she was gone Graham cheated on her with a girl from their school. When Zamora found out about the affair she convinced Graham that the only way they could make their relationship pure again would be to kill the girl he had the affair with, so the two of them killed her together. At the time this song was released Zamora and Graham were on trial in Texas.

General Comment:I think it's about a woman and her boyfriend killing a woman together. Possibly "killing" the woman's former self, like the man has corrupted her, and now she hates who she used to be.

"The taste was sweet and you delivered
I didn't know I would feel so high
Well, I guess we didn't have to kill her
But don't feel so bad though"

She's lost her innocence or inhibitions because of sex/passion with this man.

General Comment:i always thought it was about murdering an adult, just because the tone of the words sound so sarcastic and pre-meditated. I always thought along the same lines as you, purpleshushie, though i thought maybe it'd be his wife and that the persona was a mistress. maybe then, it'd give some reason behind her sarcasm and possible hate toward this other woman, whoever she is.

General Comment:I've asked Esthero 3 times to explain this song to me, but she just won't. I don't think she likes talking about the motivation behind her songs, but she's funny as hell and very insightful on anything else. artists are funny like that.

General Comment:well, i had never thought of the whole abortion possibility, but my best friend and i always thought it was about she and her boyfriend killing his ex girlfriend... maybe a bit of a stretch, but hey-it works for us.
