i'd say this song is not about a bad relationship, but a short-lived relationship and she broke it off before he could prove himself and before they could really get to know each other.

"she doesn't care about the times we never shared at all"..
maybe he knows they could have had a great, long-lasting relationship, but she broke it off prematurely. and doesn't care that she didn't give him the chance he felt he deserved.

if i may say so, the end of the guitar riff sounds to me like a prelude of angels and airwaves' sound.
