(Ba da ba ba ba da da…) x 8

I would be overstated
If I said I knew you well
That I knew you well
When you flew through that windshield
And your life passed reel the reel
Was there a bit part for me?
I made a wish for you
Blew out the sun so it’d come true
But the sun froze along with your heart

So give up, give up your love
Give up, give up your love
I promise its not gonna kill ya
And I need ya, Lord I need ya

(Ba da ba ba ba da da…) x 8

And when they cut up your lung
You said it could all breathe easy
The hole swallowed your heart
When they drill holes in your skull
And screwed that halo to your head
Did you think you could fly?
I made a prayer for you
Then prayed some more that it’d come true
Don’t know about God but I believe in you

So give up, give up your love
Give up, give up your love
I promise its not gonna kill ya
And I need ya, Lord I need ya
And though you haven’t got a lot to give up
A good man is easy to kill well
Stop talking about the weather and say you’re getting better

(Ba da ba ba ba da da…) x 8

General Comment:First of all, its not a book, its a Short Story: "A Good Man Is Hard to Find" by Flannery O'Connor.

The story is about a family who go on vacation with their annoying grandmother who ultimately gets the entire family murdered by an escaped convict. Once the entire family has been killed and the convict is holding his gun to the grandma's head, she makes the hopeless attempt to try and convert him to Christianity. In her moments just before death, she wasted her time talking about religion.

    General Comment:thanks, dustybreeze.

captanchron, I didn't know that, but I didn't mean that the song was "about a book". I was just guessing that the title could be a reference to the book, which doesn't mean the song can't be about his father's death. considering shake_it_loose's comment, it could fit. I haven't read the book though. anyway, it's an inoffensive assumption, chill out.

    General Comment:now that's funny.
I was reading about a novelist called Kurt Vonnegut when I discovered the name Flannery O'Connor, which happens to be Vonnegut's favorite writer. to my surprise, I find that she's written a story entitled "A Good Man Is Hard To Find", the same title of a Sufjan Steven's song. then I randomly decide to take a look at Beulah's lyrics and here it is: A Good Man Is Easy To Kill, certainly referring to the title of O'Connor's short story.

General Comment:It's too bad about the father, but I think the lines "I made a prayer for you...I believe in you" are some of the best lyrics ever
