If there is a God,
I know he likes to rock
He likes his loud guitars
and his Spiders from Mars

And if there is a God,
I know she's watching me
She says, "she likes what she sees,
but there's trouble on the breeze."

Who are you this time?
Are you one of us flying blind?
Because I'm down here throwing stones,
while you're so far from home

And if there is a God
I know they're on TV
they're the spies with bedroom eyes
that cower in our skies

Who are you this time?
Are you one of us flying blind?
Because I'm down here throwing stones,
while you're so far from home

General Comment:I love how he refers to God as a woman. That's awesome. He stole that of some feminist singer called Helen.

General Comment:I'm no interpreting genius, but i think he's reffering to different forms of god or gods or the people we treat as gods. Maybe, even the people he percieves as being god-like. Maybe it's a question as to why everyone has a god-like figure in there lives. All we can do is speculate.

General Comment:what's this what's this? A little reference to one of the masters of style-change?
Imagine the surprise when i suddenly realised that "the spiders from mars" line originally comes from David Bowie's years as Ziggy (I've only recently begun to dig through his music). Quite a coincidence too, because just a week or 2 ago i stumbled across a vid of billy and david performing on david's 50th birthday!
it, indeed, is a little like Joan Osborne's song. Though her song is more a "what if" song, while this song is more asking about where god is on earth, and if he has as much trouble living modern life as we do?

General Comment:I have the piano version of this song and it is simply beautiful. It reminds me of "What If God Was One of Us" by Joan Osborne. I like how the song deals with various aspects of belief in God by asking questions inviting the listener to consider how they might relate to God, such as "Are you one of us flying blind?" Truely an amazing song.

General Comment:I think the "he" and "she" lyrics change between different versions of the song. Personally I think the best version is the piano and voice one. Beautiful. None of the others come close

General Comment:this song would go awesome on a Marilyn Manson Cd, because its pretty much Marilyn Manson's view of God, maybe a boy, maybe a girl, maybe both, beyond religion. (marilyn manson is anti religous not anti-god in case you didn't know)
and also Marilyn Manson talks of the gods on TV, celebrities, wworld leaders, ect.
Oh yes i forgot to mention MM and Bilyy Corgan were real good freinds

    General Comment:The line...
    "If there is a god,
I know they're on TV" line refers to the celebrities that we worship as gods. For me, this just adds to the feeling of a godless world.

General Comment:i have a version, it's live, and is completely a 'male' God (ie. he or him). I don't think that Billy is so obsessed with a 'human-like God'; rather I believe that Billy was at a critical time in his life that he needed to ask a greater question; namely that his 'higher being' identify himself so Billy could seek him/her.

General Comment:I dont know, I've always viewed it as kind of a tribute to god.. kind of like saying 'thanks'. If there is a god, I know he likes to rock.. If god exists, I know he has blessed me with this talent? I'm not sure. Just another perspective.

I really like the piano version of this song, It's probably one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.
