Lyrics for Come On as interpreted by LizardGirl

Come On Lyrics
you've got your lights turn on so they can see you
the very best of what you've got to offer
tell them what your hands were made for
tell them who your mouth was made for
you've got your prophets and your mathematicians
the vocal fuel of a generation
tell me what my hands were made for
tell me who my mouth was made for
and please don't be mad at me
you'll get what you ask for
come on come on come on
so very close to what you had expected
it makes it very hard to keep my head up level
tell me I'm what your hands were made for
tell me I'm who your mouth was made for
if you come down on me
well you'll get what you ask for
come one come on come on
I I want to get myself back
all of the things that you promised me that you'd be
now your hands are tired
and all of the things that you promised me
that you'd need
now my hands are tired
come on come on come on

Hawt song, correct. It's like "to hell with what you say our bodies are designed for, we're built for each other, dammit."

This song was written by Sara..about her "being stupid" She was struggling in one of her classes in highschool, and her teacher expected it of her, and her difficulty with accepting the fact that this subject may not be her forte.

Amison is right. This isn't supposed to be "sexy".

"so very close to what you had expected
it makes it very hard to keep my head up level"

sorry for double posting -- also, the UFLO version has lyrics that make this clearer as well.

I really don't think this song has anything to do with sex... although I would still like to think it does : P

well -
apparently this song isn't about an intimate relationship - but to me i guess it relates to that way.
like it has an underlying meaning as well to the
real one? maybe. idk :]

ha, i'm actually pretty surprised how many people thought this song was sexual. even though it does make sense, looking at the lyrics, and even the tone of voice that it is sung in.
the first time i listened to this, i thought it was about coming out of the closet, but now that people have explained what it really means, it makes more sense.

Either way, the song is about the frustration of being held to the wrong expectations and the desire to follow one's true passion. The song supports this theme in both a sexual and educational/motivational context.

"you've got your prophets and your mathematicians
the vocal fuel of a generation"
this part is referring more to the motivational context...

but who can deny the sexual power in Sara's voice?
and "if you come down on me you'll get what you asked for"

The other version floating around.. I'm not sure where from though, is WAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYY better than the album version on this business of art... I wouldn't even like this song if I hadn't heard the other version, I actually skip the this busines of art version when i listen to that cd =/

If this song was supposed to be sexual, Tegan and Sara aren't ones to be blantant about that. The meanings in their songs are hidden, not just right out there. Which is what's so great about them.

okay, i can definitely see how this can be about something relating to school and everything.
but i still like to interpret it to something sexy and everything haha.

(and same with krsriotgrrrl12 i just checked out this song on itunes after reading your comment and i realized i too have the 'other' version, not the album one. the album one SUCKS compared to the other)
