I live my life like there's no tomorrow
And all I've got I had to steal
Least I don't need to beg or borrow
Yes I'm living at a pace that kills
Runnin' with the devil
Runnin' with the devil
I found the simple life ain't so simple
When I jumped out on that road
I got no love, no love you'd call real
Ain't got nobody waiting at home
Runnin' with the devil
Runnin' with the devil
You know I, I found the simple life, weren't so simple, no
When I jumped out on that road
Got no love, no love you'd call real
Got nobody waiting at home
Runnin' with the devil
Runnin' with the devil
Runnin' with the devil
Runnin' with the devil
[repeat and fade]

General Comment:I think that this song is about a guy who takes life a day at a time. As he goes farther into the song, he realizes that life isnt all that simple. He sees that theres no where to turn becasue he never looked and planned ahaed, he always just watched what was right in front of him.

General Comment:Many of you are partially right. Rock and roll has long been thought to be "the music of the devil" and this song accurately describes the life of "running with the devil", living the hard rock lifestyle of day to day, no real place to call home, no love of your life, running from town to town at a pace that would kills mere mortals. It's probably one of the most powerful and accurate rock and roll anthems while also being one of the least lyrical and short.

Song Meaning:You guys who think it has to do with satan are a bunch of buttfucked motherfuckers who dont know shit about van halen this song is about living life one day at a time and it is describing a lifestyle DLR experienced and how he has nowhere to go because in life. His life has no direction and because of his lifestyle he has no one to really love him and a house to call his.

Memory:I live near the train tracks and one day, this song started with it's train track sound in the beginning, and at that same time, the actual train outside my house started. I thought my radio was malfunctioning because of the vast sound differences until I realized it was the train outside.

General Comment:If I recall correctly, in an interview in 1978, Dave said that he wrote this song about his early morning workouts, mainly jogging, that he did with Satan. He and Satan met at the Whiskey--the Devil was trying to see behind Eddie's back to figure out how he did the tapping, and Dave got pissed that he was leaning on the stage, and had him removed until after the set. Anyway, after the set, he and Dave were hitting on the same blond and discovered that they have similar tastes, and actually hit it off as friends. So, there you have it, jogging with SAtan.
