You're a rich girl, and you've gone too far
'Cause you know it don't matter anyway
You can rely on the old man's money
You can rely on the old man's money
It's a bitch girl but it's gone too far
'Cause you know it don't matter anyway
Say money but it won't get you too far,
Get you too far

And don't you know, don't you know
That it's wrong to take what is given you
So far gone, on your own
You can get along if you try to be strong
But you'll never be strong
'Cause

You're a rich girl, and you've gone too far
'Cause you know it don't matter anyway
You can rely on the old man's money
You can rely on the old man's money
It's a bitch girl and it's gone too far
'Cause you know it don't matter anyway
Say money but it won't get you too far,
Get you too far

High and dry, out of the rain
It's so easy to hurt others when you can't feel pain
And don't you know that a love can't grow
'Cause there's too much to give, 'cause you'd rather live
For the thrill of it all, oh

You're a rich girl, and you've gone too far
'Cause you know it don't matter anyway
You can rely on the old man's money
You can rely on the old man's money
It's a bitch girl and it's gone too far
'Cause you know it don't matter anyway
Say money but it won't get you too far,
Say money but it won't get you too far,
Say money but it won't get you too far,
Get you too far

And you say
You can rely on the old man's money
You can rely on the old man's money
You're a rich girl, a rich girl
Oh, you're a rich rich girl yeah
Say money but it won't get you too far,
Oh, get ya too far

General Comment:I dont think this song is about somebody's son. To me, the singer is speaking to a girl who has a sugar daddy. And the girl is a total beyach and the singer is more or less a cuckold wuss who cant move on.

    Two lyrics to my point

[Dont you know that its wrong to take what he's giving you. ]

Its not wrong to take from your dad, even if you are privileged, unless dad is hooking you up w/ drugs, etc. This song isn't about drugs.

[a love cant grow, cause there's too much to give cause you'd rather live for the thrill of it all ]

He's finally realizing the story in his head is not going to play out w/ this materialistic woman.

To me... this song is a dude standing on the front porch one morning, he just found out she shacked up w/ sugar daddy again. The light finally goes on, shes not going to change. He obviously still digs the chick , this song isn't about indifference. Its pain and frustration and he unloads a dump truck of it on her while she's staring at him wondering why he is still here.

Hopefully he went out and found a nice girl. Funny stuff.

H&O remind me a lot of Kenny Rogers. My parents liked them and I always thought they were cheesy. As I re listen to some of the stuff, its easy to see why their popularity spans decades. Its great music. I just had to grow up a bit.

Different take, thought I would take the time to share.

General Comment:this is the most badass song ever. it rocks. music should always be this awesome. u cant not like it. i like how dry the lyrics are, they didnt hold back, the person who this song is about would be seriously offended if they heard this but its such a happy song u almost dont notice. apparently it was originally about a boy the artists knew and it was going to be rich boy, but then they changed it to rich girl or something along those lines.

General Comment:it's about hall's girlfriend's ex-boyfriend who was a really rich guy whose father owned some sort of fast food chain. as mentioned before, they changed it from rich boy to rich girl.

General Comment:I heard Darryl Hall interviewed on Howard Stern, what i remember him saying was this: the song was written about a college friend of his who was a privledged son of a record company executive. apparently he totally burnt his brain out on drugs. the original title was going to be "rich boy" but Hall didn't think it sounded right so he changed it to "Rich Girl"

General Comment:I know it's obvious, but with the news covering these spoiled brats, known as Britney and Paris, I couldn't help but post this.

(My channel is changed whenever I see or hear these stories.)

General Comment:son of sam, a serial killer from the 70's who targeted mostly women, said that this song was a motivation for the murders. I doubt it though, because the murders began before this song was even released.

just thought that was interesting :)

General Comment:I agree with everyone. The song speaks for itself. I'm surprised at how few comment there are for all the Hall & Oates songs.

General Comment:This is a great song for all Classic Rock collections, very often overllokes, surprised I dont see more comments here, but then again, not many folks consider it as good as it really is
