She lives in this house over there, has her world outside it.
Grapples with the earth with her fingers and her mouth, she's five years old.
Thread worms on a string, keeps spiders in her pocket, collects fly-wings in
A jar scrubs horse flies and pinches them on a line. she's got one friend
He lives next door, they listen to the weather, he knows how many freckles
she's got,
She scratches his beard. she's painting huge books, glues them together,
They saw a big raven; it glided down the sky, she touched it.
Today's a birthday, they're smoking cigars, he got a chain of flowers,
Sows a bird in her knickers, they're smoking cigars, lie in the bathtub, chain of flowers.

That fact that ravens are black and cigars are typically a dark brown, I'm wondering if the man in the song is black/non-white. Not saying I know this to be true, or that it's even relevant, just that the innuendos seem to suggest the man is not white.
It would certainly explain sewing it in her knickers a little better...

"They're smoking cigars
They lie in the bathtub
A chain of ... flowers"
is instead
"þau sjúga vindla
þau liggja í baðkari
í dag er hennar dagur"
which means
"the smoke cigars
they lie in (a) bathtub
today is her day"
implying, maybe, that this is _her_ birthday and not his?
And the line:
"And sows a bird in her knickers"
is in icelandic:
"Og hann saumar fugl
í nærbuxurnar hennar"
which means:
"and he sows (a) bird
in her undergarments/panties"
It could just mean that he sows an image of a bird in her, perhaps, most treasured undergarments. Could be his birthday gift to her.
Also, the part "she touched it" is simply referring to the raven that soared down the sky to the ground.
(Hann sveif niður himininn
Hún snerti hann! = "he flew down the sky, she touched him!")
Sows as in a motif, a piece of embroidery or...
Sows as in physically sows a bird.
I prefer the former as I'd hate to think of animal cruelty.
I remember when I was five and I had feelings for older women. If I were to write a song about a woman and a boy it wouldn't be as controversial as this song is to some. This is pure and sincere to how children feel at an age before sex was even known about. It's just a little girls crush.
