I've looked under chairs
I've looked under tables
I've tried to find the key
To fifty million fables

[Chorus]
They call me The Seeker
I've been searching low and high
I won't get to get what I'm after
Till the day I die

I asked Bobby Dylan
I asked The Beatles
I asked Timothy Leary
But he couldn't help me either

[Chorus]

People tend to hate me
Cause I never smile
As I ransack their homes
They want to shake my hand

Focusing on nowhere
Investigating miles
I'm a seeker
I'm a really desperate man

I won't get to get what I'm after
Till the day I die

I learned how to raise my voice in anger
Yeah, but look at my face, ain't this a smile?
I'm happy when life's good
And when it's bad I cry
I've got values but I don't know how or why

I'm looking for me
You're looking for you
We're looking in at other
And we don't know what to do

[Chorus]

Song Meaning:The song is about a guy, who gives away the time for seeking something satisfactory outside himself. He becomes tired and frustrated. He realises that people don't really like him, because he's trying to find this vague "something" in them and gets angry that they don't really have it. He doesn't enjoy life but merely uses it to find something that would explain it.

The hero of the song is developing. In the end he becomes aware that even if he found this nonexistent thing for which he looked that desperately, it wouldn't make him happy. He doesn't need to understand all the things (like where did his values come from), he just lives his life, he's happy when it's good, and he's sad when it's bad, and that's all. He can breathe now.

Song Meaning:Off Wiki: Around the time of song's release, Townshend explained its meaning in an interview with Rolling Stone: "Quite loosely, "The Seeker" was just a thing about what I call Divine Desperation, or just Desperation. And what it does to people. It just kind of covers a whole area where the guy's being fantastically tough and ruthlessly nasty and he's being incredibly selfish and he's hurting people, wrecking people's homes, abusing his heroes, he's accusing everyone of doing nothing for him and yet at the same time he's making a fairly valid statement, he's getting nowhere, he's doing nothing and the only thing he really can't be sure of is his death, and that at least dead, he's going to get what he wants. He thinks!"

My Interpretation:I believe there is an underlying message in this song that if one continues to always seak reason, you won't find it. When you stop searching, the answers become clear. There doesn't always have to be a reason to enjoy yourself and just be glad to be here.

General Comment:Our goals in life arent determined until our life is over and all our accomplishments are frozen in time. We seek success (whatever its definition may be to us personally) and once we die, everything we have done becomes our legacy, but until that day, nothing is set in stone. Search for happiness, fulfillment, truth, and the meaning of your life until then. Look in your loved ones, in yourself, in music, in nature, find it somewhere.

They call me the seeker!!! :D

General Comment:Some in life become aware of their consciousness, their mortality, the overwhelming concept of eternity, which is both a blessing and a curse. I feel that several bands from the 60's and 70's attained this self awareness, including The Who and The Beatles. The Beatles and Timothy Leary both searched for answers to the mysteries of life which can be seen in Lennon's song "Tomorrow Never Knows" which was influenced by Leary's interpretation of The Tibetan Book of the Dead, Harrison's "Within You and Without You," as well as the band's visit to the ashram in India with the Maharishi. This song is about Pete "seeking" the meaning of life--the answers to the mysteries of life: Why are we here, where did we come from, what is the purpose of life, where do we go when we die, does consciousness transcend, etc. He tried to find these answers, but didn't buy the "fifty million fables" people put out through religion and philosophy that attempt to answer the aforementioned questions. Eventually, Pete came to terms with the scary fact that he could "seek" these answers all he wanted, but he wouldn't find the answers he looked for until the day he died.

General Comment:I feel like this sometimes, but not enough to call myself a "seeker". Most of the time I just accept the reality that the answers are there, just not the ones that I want. I know what's wrong and what's right, but what's wrong is usually much more fun. When I've done something wrong I don't pretend it's right, I just accept the facts and try to make life as bearable a possible. Pondering over specifics or asking too many questions can drive a person insane.

General Comment:I think it's about Pete's everlasting struggle for finding the right sound that really expresses what he feels and thinks.

My Opinion:To be honest I don't think it's about drug nor about someone finding them self. It really seems from the statement "I've tried to find the key,To fifty million fables". Is what he merely is seeking is the truth. The truth to what could be aruged but maybe it left for us to think about.
