Lonely feeling deep inside
Find a corner where I can hide
Silent footsteps crowding me
Sudden darkness, but I can see

[Chorus]
No sugar tonight in my coffee
No sugar tonight in my tea
No sugar to stand beside me
No sugar to run with me

In the silence of her mind
Quiet movements, well, I can find
Grabbing for me with her eyes
Now I'm falling from her skies

[Chorus]

NEW MOTHER NATURE

Jocko says yes and I believe him
When we talk about the things I say
She hasn't got the faith or the guts to leave him
When they're standing in each other's way

You're driven back now to places you've been to
You're wondering what you're gonna find
You know you've been wrong but it won't be long
Before you leave them all far behind

[Chorus 2]
Cause it's the new Mother Nature taking over
It's the new splendid lady come to call
It's the new Mother Nature taking over
She's getting us all
She's getting us all

Jocko said no when I came back last time
It's looking like I lost a friend
No use calling cause the sky is falling
And I'm getting pretty near the end
A smoke-filled room in a corner basement
The situation must be right
A bag of goodies and a bottle of wine
We're gonna get it on right tonight

[Chorus 2]

{1st verse of "No Sugar Tonight" sung simultaneously with 1st verse of "New Mother Nature"}

Lonely feeling
Jocko says yes and I believe him
Deep inside
When we talk about the things I say
Find a corner
She hasn't got the faith or the guts to leave him
Where I can hide
When they're standing in each other's way
Silent footsteps
You're driven back now to places you've been to
Crowding me
You're wondering what you're gonna find
Sudden darkness
You know you've been wrong and it won't be long
But I can see
Before you leave 'em all far behind

[Chorus 2]

General Comment:alright its not about coke, back then, late sixties, early seventies, LSD was administered mostly from sugar cubes and he's saying that he doesnt want to trip acid that night. if you have tripped acid you will know from first hand what he is talking about, and from first hand, i have, the bag of goodies part is most likely pot, not coke, "now im fallin from her skies" means hes comin down from a trip. furthermore in new mother he says "trippin back to places you've been to" self explanitary...

General Comment:It could be about cocaine, sure; but since it's not necessarily about that, I'll indulge that it's about being alone.

Why is he alone? Tell me that, and *then* I'll eat you.

    General Comment:Great song.
It's annoying though, how many radio stations leave out the "New Mother Nature" portion.

General Comment:This part was written by Randy Bachman. From the story told on the 2007 PBS special, Randy showed up a Burton's house one day, and they found that they had both written a song in the difficult key of "E" and neither could finish it. Thus they melded the songs together, and came up with "No Sugar/New Mother Nature." Of course, this could be the result of revisionist history. After Randy and Burton fell out, the Guess Who always performed only Burton's "New Mother Nature" segment of the song.

General Comment:It refers to cocaine, or the lack of it "a bag of goodies and a bottle of wine, were going to get it on right tongith" "falling from her skies" its a bout a coke high.

General Comment:i definately agree with jhalmeida. i think it's pretty clear that this song is not about a girl, but rather the devil's danfruff, the white lady, booger sugar, coke. in any instance, this is a tight groove. going from No Sugar Tonight into the New Mother Nature. good stuff

General Comment:To me this song is clearly about a cocaine, (sugar) addiction. The lyric, "now I'm falling from her skies", is a blatant metaphor for crashing from a coke high. The song just would not make sense if it was about a girl.
