My reflection
Wraps and pulls me under
healing waters to be
Bathed in Brena

Guides me
Safely in
Worlds I've never been to
Heal me
Heal me
My dear Brena

So vulnerable
But it's alright

Heal me
Heal me
My dear Brena

Show me lonely and
Show me openings
To lead me closer to you
My dear Brena

(Feeling so) vulnerable
But it's alright

Opening to... heal...
Opening to... heal...
Heal.. Heal.. Heal...

Heal me

General Comment:the word Brena means a spiritual place of healing and beautiful daughter of mine...

i personally think this song was written for a woman (obviously by a man) who feels as if he is at peace when he is with her. (may be looking to much into detail, but every girl is a daughter...)

    IMO

General Comment:This is about Maynard's ex partner, whose middle name was Brena.

Best love song ever. The opening line cuts like a knife. "My reflection". That is so deep. You cannot find a more deep and beautiful way to call your partner, than to say you are so deeply connected you reflect in each other. The song also says being vulnerable and fragile is OK. Where most lovesongs fall into cliches, this one goes very very deep. Cuts like a knife straight to the emotions.

General Comment:This song is about Brena River in Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, and if it wasn't then it is now. You couldn't convice me otherwise if you went so far as to pull my sword out of my mouse while playing.

    Here @ elder scrolls wiki:

Southwest of the Colovian Highlands, the BRENA River and those mountains form the northwest border of Cyrodiil. On the other side is Hammerfell.

There is a shipwreck at the mouth of the BRENA River.

If you have high enough Acrobatics, it is possible to jump up and walk a around on a very miniscule part of Hammerfell in Oblivion. ( in case you didn't know this either... I didn't know this either until i found the rest of this anyway...)

Why would anybody make a song about someone they are close to, and use their middle name to refer to them (the whole time)? Who does that, and what is the point... If you're gonna sing about someone, use their first name at least...

Brena is also a mythical place of healing, and the BRENA RIVER from Elder Scrolls 4 would fulfill that definition... even like saying... at least having an image of the water on computer is better than no water at all...

Like I said you can't convince me otherwise... but I had almost forgot about the BRENA RIVER in the game until I DLed this song again the other day...funny part is, I noticed it when I first got the game, but forgot all about the connection while I was playing... Thanx for reminding me! Peace!

My Opinion:yes it is about his wife,
but it could also be about the duality we all face in our shadows(jung)
he also hints at this in a t001 (push it) "what are you( also what is this ) but my reflection, who am i to judge or strike you down.... there's no love in this"
this to me is the polar of that song, just as a ying to the yang we all should find the balance in our selves of our duality.
also it deals with education, to learn (open ones mind) you have to "...and learn how to put your self in a state of vulnerable open mindedness chaotic confused vulnerability to inform your self.." t001 third eye (salival) and the bliss one gets from there education. you come full circle to repeat this process over and over, and to me is quite euphoric. but it is bereavement as well. because, the more you know the more you are responsible for, knowledge is power and like any power when misused it turns on the one whom wields it, even whole civilizations.
but this song could be for any one in a loving relationship/friendship. and is a wonderful song that fills me hope in finding love that strong.

General Comment:I used this song for the Mother/Son dance at my wedding. The reason I picked this song out of any multitude of others is not only because I absolutely adore A Perfect Circle and Maynard's voice is perfect for conveying emotion, but the lyrics of the song struck a chord in me. My mother has always been someone I can count on to support me in whatever choices I make, as well as being someone who has saved me from a lot of internal pain. Its a hard position to describe when you don't feel well, you feel restless, uncomfortable in your own skin, and having someone in your life you feel comfortable trying to explain that feeling and knowing they won't judge you and will remain strong when you need someone to lean on.

She's always been there to heal me. As a mother, it was her position in life to teach me and show me openings to grow, to deal with my inner demons. When I listen to this song, it sounds very warm, a musical hug that calms me and fills me with some inner peace.

General Comment:According to the guitar tablature book the 1st chorus is "mourn her own" and the 2nd is "vulnerable". Not like that makes a huge difference or anything, but he's definitely saying an "m" word in the first chorus if you listen closely, and an "n" at the end of own.

Either way, this is a very beautiful song and full of love/pain... they often go hand in hand.

My Interpretation:If you search the origin of the name Brena (remember we are talking about the album "mer de noms" = "sea of names") it is thought to be related with BRAONÁN Gaelic name composed of the elements braon "drop, moisture," and a diminutive suffix, hence "little drop." I think the "Breña" some people are referring to isn't an island but there are two municipalities in the Spanish island of Tenerife named Breña Alta and Breña Baja, which have black sand beaches.

For me the healing waters are in fact teardrops. In my opinion he is telling Jennifer that he trusts her ("...Vulnerable! It's alright!...") that together they can cope with pain ("...Guide me safely in
Worlds I've never been to..." ; "...Opening to Heal...") and the same pain can bring them closer together ("...Show me lonely and Show me openings to Bring me closer to you...").

My Opinion:This is a beautiful song. Maynard always finds a way to match the lyrics to the overall mood of the music.

When he says, "Heal me, Heal me" I feel it. He's amazing.

General Comment:This song was definitly an outlet to take the Tool facination and metaphores about water to another level, and incorporate it into something beautiful and touching for his wife (Jennifer Brena).
