Fancy a big house
Some kids and a horse
I can not quite, but nearly
Guarantee, a divorce
I think that I love you
I think that I do
So go on mister, make Miss me Mrs you.

I love you, I love you, I love you, I do
I only make jokes to distract myself
From the truth, from the truth.

Fancy a fast car
A bag full of loot
I can nearly guarantee
You'll end up with the boot

I love you, I love you, I love you , I do
I only make jokes to distract myself
From the truth, from the truth.
I love you, I love you, I love you , I do
I only make jokes to distract myself
From the truth, from the truth.

General Comment:I only know this song because it was once sent to me by a young woman that was having an affair with me. She was in a relationship and said that she feels about us the way this song goes. That's why my interpretation of this song is that the woman is almost ready to leave her relationship (divorce) for this other man. She's letting him know that she's almost ready and telling him to give the last push (because generally women can't make that final step all by themselves). If only I had listened to the lyrics when she gave them to me ;). Too late now, she chose the relationship to my immense regret at the time.

Song Meaning:I see it as the common "rich family ends in chaos" when I look at the lyrics. And that she knows this chaos will happen consciously, but can only but sit and watch on as things unfold, almost as if wanting to see if her guesses were right. She's repeating "I love you" as her last plea in a way. She's "distracting herself" from some nasty secret about her lover that she doesn't want to acknowledge that may be the cause of the chaos itself.

General Comment:To me it's about someone who has falsely believed that materialistic objects such as "a big house" & a nice, fancy car, is all you'll need to be happy and content, but many people who have all that still feel as though somethin is really missing and even putting up a front that you have a happy, perfect, and well DRAFTED life is not going to make up for that.

I think the music video for the song did a decent job capturing the meaning of the lyrics.

General Comment:Judging from just the lyrics, to me this is a woman singing to a wealthy, powerful man who is madly in love with her. Too in love with her, in fact, to fathom what she knows is going to happen(divorce). I think she's singing about how they'll have a huge wedding, some kids, the perfect life, but at last their perfect life will shatter with a messy divorce and she'll be the one with the "bag full of loot" and him "with the boot". In other words, I think she knows that if he marries her and they divorce, she'll end up with the cars, the house, the horse and he'll be the one kicked out and left with nothing. When she says "So go on mister, make Miss me Mrs you" it's like she's daring him to marry her, daring him to be that stupid. She loves him, but not enough to stop him.

On the other hand, the music video portrays something completely different. The music video really plays up the sarcasm, making the lyrics seem so much simpler. Judging the lyrics and the video together, I have to assume that it's two people who love to hate each other, though they really and truly do love each other. Like others have suggested, maybe she's too scared to really love him.

General Comment:I see this all as being directly said to her lover, presumably a rich man. In the main verses, shes predicting a divorce, talking about running away with his money, shown in "fancy a fast car, a bag full of loot". And in the chorus she's denying what she said in the other verses, calling it a joke, and claiming her love for him over and over.

Depending on interpretation, that could either mean she really truly loves him, and when she tells him it'll end badly she's just joking to distract herself from how much she loves him. You could also interpret it as a kind of satirical song about a woman who is really seeking monetary gain, lets slip her intentions a few times, and has to cover it with monumental proclamations of love. I personally think the first interpretation is slightly more likely than the second.

Either way you interpret it, there's some fear of commitment in there. If I was the man she was singing this to, I'd be pretty confused and apprehensive. So maybe she's trying to throw him off and keep him at arms length, because she's not ready to tie the knot yet. And the song title 'distractions' could be her trying to distract him from the idea of marriage.

This song could really mean any number of things, but that doesn't stop it from being beautiful...

General Comment:I always thought this song was talking about a girl who loved someone who didn't love her back, so she made jokes about his future love life to distract herself from the fact that he doesn't love her. The intensity and repetition of "I love you" conveys she really loved him but it was impossible for that love to be returned. To make herself feel better she made assumptions that he would have a superficial marriage with everything perfect but real love which she felt for him.

General Comment:i'm pretty much o the same page with FeyTh on this one. She's in love, afraid of getting hurt, so she's afraid of admitting it since it'll become known and it'll be an actual fact. So she just jokes about everything related to the whole "liking someone".

General Comment:If you fail to see sarcasm in "Make Miss me Mrs. You", then you're dense.

General Comment:I dont think shes being sarcastic at all. She's probably just a woman who knows it's time to settle down, and this man seems to have all the boxes ticked for a perfect husband, though she's shaky as to whether she really does love him so she just thinks 'well i might as well'. The way she says "go on, mr, make miss me, mrs you". When she says 'go on' its almost as if she wants to seal the deal quickly before she changes her mind. She knows that after some time she'll get sick of the "model marriage" and probably divorce him, but he's got lots money anyway so if she did then she'd be better off.
