Lyrics for Breath as interpreted by ladybug

Breath Lyrics
oh tonight began with anything,
shaft of light, a warm breath and a scream,
oh tamper if you like between the doors
oh cant expect to go out, to go out with anything more

oh, reach the door, a breath and a..
oh, reach the door, hey a lalala yeah
life aint what its worth
a breath and a... oh reach the door

all these reaching hands out grabbing things, grabbing me
day in day out accumulating
who i suggest you step on your porch
run away my son, see it all, oh see the world

oh reach the door, a breath and a...
oh reach the door, hey a lalala yeah
life aint what its worth
a breath and a... oh reach the door

come, here it comes, there it goes, when it comes
where it goes, when it comes
cant see through the faith, whoh
ooh come, here it comes, there it goes
grab what you can
dont you know theres something inside your head, yeah,

if i knew whare it was, i would take you there, there's much more than this, ooh whoh much more that this, whoh see the world,
much more that... whoh much more than...

I love the music in this song, especially the live version on the Covering Them CD. It sounds to me like its about life as a big adventure and not getting tied down to something you really dont need to enjoy live. PJ is one of the best bands in the world

One of the best pearl jam songs. It's very motivational. Just get up and get it done!

Good interpretations here. But I think it's interesting, 'step out on your porch'. Reminds me of Yellow Ledbetter 'can't you see them? out on the porch. but they don't wave.' So Breath is someone leaving their porch and YLB is them coming back in a body bag (dead). I don't think the two songs are really related, only Pearl Jam knows. ;)

one of PJ's most awesome songs ever. Anyone have any idea when it was first recorded?

First recorded with State of Love and Trust for the Singles soundtrack, which was a crappy movie but an unbelievable soundtrack, featuring Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, and Smashing Pumpkins. This song is awesome and has a classic rock feel. It's too bad not many people know this song, because it is actually one of PJ's best and if released as a single, it would've probably been a huge hit. The guitar solo at the end is amazing. The song is telling people not to waste away their life.

TommyCap- Singles was a GREAT movie. "When I was younger I thought by the time I hit 21, I'd have travelled the world, be married with three kids. Now that I'm 23, things are pretty much.......the same." how true.

Great song, but unsual for many people. I think the message is clear, donīt stay inside something that doesnīt aloud you to see the real dimension of things, of life, and th facts of life. Let the fate come along, waiting for something is a waste of time, all you have to do is go out with simple and basics things you need (a warm breath, a scream, etc.)

I totally agree. It sounds exactly like a thing that eddie vedder would say about the way to live. Great song. The rearviewmirror really is a very good collection, putting together all PJ's best original studio recorded versions together. The live versions, well that for us to find among all PJ's recorded concerts from their worldwide tours.

also, i do think the song is talking about seeing the world but the message could be to just live your life the way you want and dont get stuck living a life you grow to hate, and that seeing the world is that form of escaping such a life.

I always kind of thought it was similar to Rearviewmirror, but from a second person perspective, the way the lyrics such as "there's much more than this" give the impression of someone stuck in a bad situation and needing help getting away...having said that I'm usually too preoccupied with listening to Stone and Mike do their thing to really pay attention to the lyrics haha

You guys are the best... although everyone got a particular point of view... the feeling it's just the same. Also a merit for the band, eh?

One thing about this song that really gets me rapt is also what I love the most in grunge scenario... DUDE, It's basically 2 chords only! The whole music is solely a jam on those 2 chords... I take my guitar sometimes and just start jumping around, mixing chords and whatever and is really moving to see such an intensity from a pro band able to make great songs like that... almost childish! Man.. love PJ, love it! love it!

yeeeeeaaaahhhh If I knew where it was... I would take you thhhherrre there's much more than thiiis!!! yeeeaaah =)))))

I think its about leaving home for the first time as a teenager...

"grab what you can, don't you know there's something inside your head"...

- take what you need and leave home... use your own mind for once...

the lyrics are pretty straight forward... "run away my son, see the world"... that doesn't need interpretation... i just think this song is for like 18 year olds who are about to venture out on their own...

I think it's either a confrontation with a thief, or someone who seeks material things only, and is missing out on something bigger.
