Okay!
Party people in the house!
Do you ever question your life?
Do you ever wonder why?
Do you ever see in your dreams?
All the castles in the sky
[Chorus]
Oh tell me why
Do we build castles in the sky?
Oh tell me why
Are the castles way up high?
Please tell me why
Do we build castles in the sky?
Oh tell me why
Are the castles way up high?
Do ever question your life?
Do you ever wonder why?
Do you ever see in your dreams
All the castle in the sky?
[Chorus]
Party people in the house!
Do you ever question your life?
Do you ever wonder why?
Do you ever see in your dreams?
All the castles in the sky
[Chorus]
Oh tell me why
Do we build castles in the sky?
Oh tell me why
Are the castles way up high?
Please tell me why
Do we build castles in the sky?
Oh tell me why
Are the castles way up high?
Do ever question your life?
Do you ever wonder why?
Do you ever see in your dreams
All the castle in the sky?
[Chorus]

It asks the listener to question themselves. Why do we strive to reach higher and higher when we can just stop and be content where we are. What makes us tick, what makes us go every morning until evening?
Purpose. Everyone has their own castle in the sky. It's where they want to be. But with our society, keeping dreams alive is probably the most difficult thing to do-- especially when we're just trying to survive and keep our heads above the balderdash.
Thank you for the human spirit! The spirit to be greater than ourselves, to achieve the impossible in the midst of endless mediocrity. Why stop when the universe is telling us to go?
"If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them."
In the quote, it's saying it's okay to have your ambitions up high where they may seem unattainable. However, they're not necessarily impossible, if you just take steps underneath to reach them.
The song is questioning why you have such lofty goals, but perhaps looking back on the original quote will help. It's okay, as long as you build the foundations under so your dreams don't collapse.
With that said...
"Please tell me why; do we build castles in the sky?"
Why do you get your hopes up only to be disappointed in the end?
Kind of romantic isn't it?
If you stop hoping and wishing and building and growing...
There's nothing to fall short from. Nothing to hurt you.
So then in reality the question is...
Why are we as human beings so weak?
Why must we have emotions?
Also, my thoughts on this song, it could be talking about skyscrapers that are towering closer and closer to the sky. And she's basically saying, we don't need to be up that high and we need to bring it back down to earth because nobody is going to reach the Heavens above; although we'd like to.
As someone said, meaning in trance songs is not always that relevant. It is a great song.
1) I am really open-minded, and am definitely open to any and all other theories or interpretations. That is simply just something I have wondered while listening to this song.
2) I like what both Vidacious and platinum said. When I read what Vidacious said, I almost felt as if he/she was maybe thinking along the same lines as me. And I liked platinum's interpretation. :)
3) I don't think we will ever know what the meaning is for sure, unless it's creator states it outright.
