Long ago and oh so far away
I fell in love with you before the second show
Your guitar, it sounds so sweet and clear
But you're not really here
It's just the radio

Take me back
Loneliness is a such a sad affair
And I can hardly wait to be with you again

What to say to make you come again
Come back to me again
And play your sad guitar

General Comment:This song is pure beauty. I love Sonic Youth's cover though.

General Comment:For me, this is the best song ever written. I LOVE the Sonic Youth cover, but Karen's voice on here is just amazing. I love the Carpenter's. All of their songs are of the highest possible quality, but this is simply the best of the best.

General Comment:Sigh, this song reminds me of a boy I went out with who left, promising he'd come back and he never did. I listen to this song and I feel so haunted whenever I hear it like I knew exactly what Karen Carpenter might have felt. Who knows? She might have sang it out of personal experience.

General Comment:interesting how the line "i can hardly wait to be with you again" was originally "i can hardly wait to sleep with you again", but richard carpenter changed it so as not to be risque. perhaps a little thread leftover from when the song was known as "groupie", as wilyuncfox mentioned. either way, karen had one of the most beautiful voices i've ever heard. i think she could have invested just about any song with a level of depth and feeling that wouldn't have been there otherwise. she was underrated as a drummer, too.

General Comment:Actually, this is a cover of a Delaney & Bonnie song. And I think that the Sonic Youth cover pales in comparison to this version. You want to hear a good cover of the song, listen to Luther Vandross' version.

Anyway, back to the point of this website. The song was originally titled "Groupie", which I think is somewhat self-explanatory with the lyrics. For example, just look at handsdown4beatles' comment.

General Comment:I have no problem with Sonic Youth because they have some good stuff out there, and are sincere fans of the Carpenters... however, their version could have been done by anyone. Thurston just talks his way through the song and they added some static in the background.

General Comment:I didn't hear the cover. But then again, I love the originals more than the cover because they ARE the original.

I can relate to this song. I used to crush Liam Gallagher from Oasis... and I still love him! :)
