Lyrics for Motion Sickness as interpreted by bright eyes burn me

Motion Sickness Lyrics
There is nothing for which I am responsible
Just this baggage that I keep carrying on as if I had someone

Ok, maybe there is a woman somewhere
Who's still thinking of me
Or a girl with coal black hair
Who's haunted in her dreams
But what they've seen, well, it wasn't me
It was just some lie that they slept beside
I kept this from them but I can't keep this from you

So will you look for me in that strange, bright place
Where the statues bloom in the park?
They don't need no rain

Because how I ever got to you, I have no idea
It's like some secret door, well, it just appeared
So, no matter what I do from now on with my time
You will always stay here in my mind
I am certain of this and I am not certain of anything

So I want to get myself attached to something bolted down
So that these winds of circumstance won't keep blowing me around
To when I land to when I leave there is enough time to sleep and sing
I keep running when all I want is to lay motionless

This song is so well written and performed. I love the lyrics, they seem so simple but you can feel all the emotions as connor sings it.
Where the statues bloom in the park.
They don't need no rain.

i dont know why i care so much, but i absolutely love it when titles of songs arent just taken directly from the chorus or the lyrics of the song. when i read the last line of this song and then think about the title, its just like, damn, thats a good way of summing up the song into a good title.

The first song I heard by Bright Eyes, and for a long time it was my favourite too. I love this song. It's so... calm.

I love when connor puts in random things in his songs, like what he did at the end of this song. They are saying Jesus and laughing and coughing and saying make it stop. This song is so damn beautiful. Whenever i listen to a bright eyes song i just want to burt with emotion, he makes me think about my life in different ways. Its amazing how depressing songs like this can make me feel so incredible. I wish connor knew that.

On the live version, he changes the last line to

"To when I land to when I leave there is enough time to sleep and sing
He said 'If I quit fucking around", will she try to take me seriously?' Will you? Will you? Will you? Will you?"

this song reminds me of a lot of things i'm going through...

hmm. how i interpret it is...
there's someone that he thinks is absolutly amazing, and he can't believe that he got them to think something of him and maybe they started a relationship or something. and he fell in love with them, and the love is going to stay with him. [["Because how I ever got to you, I have no idea
It's like some secret door, well, it just appeared
So, no matter what I do from now on with my time
You will always stay here in my mind
I am certain of this and I am not certain of anything]].

but now that the relationship is over because whoever he was in love with left him, he wants to find someone who's there to stay, and not leave him after a period of time. [[So I want to get myself attached to something bolted down
So that these winds of circumstance won't keep blowing me around]].

that's about all i could really understand, except for the very first part, which is kind of obvious.

anyway, this is one song i listen to when i'm depressed. it's just so fitting. one of my favorite bright eyes songs, out of every other amazing song.

also, the guitar chord progression is the same as "first day of my life", i don't know if that has anything to do with it.

At the end, They say something like 'make it stop' (coughing etc.) then 'Oh My God. Take a chance' At least that's what I thought it was.

I love this song, it was the first Bright Eyes song I heard.. It never gets old. So pretty.

When I listen to this song, I think of the narrator, I suppose Conor, going on tour, and meeting a woman/many women.

"There is nothing for which I am responsible
Just this baggage that I keep carrying on as if I had someone"

-He didn't 'have' this person, meaning they never actually dated. He still has her on his mind.

"Ok, maybe there is a woman somewhere
Who's still thinking of me
Or a girl with coal black hair
Who's haunted in her dreams
But what they've seen, well, it wasn't me
It was just some lie that they slept beside"

-So basically he's saying that there is a woman 'somewhere'; perhaps it was a one-night-stand type thing with someone he met while touring and he doesn't even remember where she lived.

"So will you look for me in that strange, bright place
Where the statues bloom in the park?
They don't need no rain"

-This makes me think of heaven.. if he IS talking about heaven, he's asking her if she'll look for him there when they've both passed away.

"Because how I ever got to you, I have no idea
It's like some secret door, well, it just appeared
So, no matter what I do from now on with my time
You will always stay here in my mind
I am certain of this and I am not certain of anything"

-He cares about this person alot and she never leaves his mind. He feels really blessed to have met her in the first place, and that she just sort of came out of nowhere.

"So I want to get myself attached to something bolted down
So that these winds of circumstance won't keep blowing me around"

-He wants to be in a solid relationship, with someone who won't leave him due to circumstances, maybe distance or something.

"To when I land to when I leave there is enough time to sleep and sing
I keep running when all I want is to lay motionless"

-He feels rushed around and he needs time to breathe and stay in one place for a while.

I could be waywayway off but that's just what I think of when I listen to the song. yepyep.

I was listening to this song when I realized something, "I keep running when all I want is to lay motionless", with that he means he's always touring and want to go home and rest. And then, comes the live album and it's called "motion sickness" - like how he just keep running around from place to place playing.

This has to be my favorite song off the Cd Noise Floor... To me he is singing about a girl from his past, of which he will always love, but it was always up and down and as a result he will always remember her but he needs something more steady

This song was intially written by conor about the stresses of touring, and how he often just longs to go home and escape it all. To me, it's very much about wanting to slow down the things in my head, to just make everything quiet and stop from running around when my body aches.

either way, its a beautiful song and my favourite off the noise floor rarities album

Love this song, was the first Bright Eyes song I ever heard, and for a long time the only one I bothered listening to.
Much more recently I've got hold of a bunch more songs, n I think they're pretty damn good.
