Ok, wow to the person who thinks this song is about a blowjob! Incubus doesn't talk about meaningless topics such as blowjobs. All their lyrics have double meanings and talk about society and a lot of political issues.

I personally LOVE this song because it gives hope to those who see the world as a 'fucked up and cold place.' The song states 'not everyone here is that fucked up and cold,' its a motivational song for those who are put down by this world. Its saying to experience life, or the good things in life before you grow old and are too tired or weary. Its saying to not be scared, don't let fear overwhelm you or keep you from experiencing much more although you want to be away from it all at times.

Its sad and hopeful all at once :)

Everyone missed the mark on this song yet it's so simple. It's about making the most of this life and moving towards the good experiences while you are still young. Seeing the warmth in the cold basically. That's why the cold wind blows on the highest high rise today. He see's it's getting colder the higher we climb in this final time before our transition into the next phase. He's reminding us to not forget there are still good people out there because not everyone is cold (that's why he is singing it get it). The loneliness that comes with spiritual awakening usually leads us to feel lonely but the reality is that is part of the process of becoming stronger and enduring more. This is the paradox of the Cold it takes us back to the inside and helps us be more mindful and breath. Win hof method is actually about embracing the cold and finding warmth in it. And what's ironic is that the most you expose yourself to cold the less it effects you because you inside become more warm. You speed up your metabolism in this process and become more conscious. Which is important as things are getting colder as time goes on. So you must always make yourself warmer to stay strong. Spiritual strength is in yourself you don't need anyone help you see the warmth in the cold. but it is nice sometimes to have someone remind you in-case you forget as we do sometimes when we are feeling low.

I think this song is about not letting society get to you, staying true to yourself and finding true happiness and peace with yourself. The first time I heard this song, it instantly grew on me, it's an amazing song and I love it

a simply fucking awesome song. so pretty, with a good bit of building dynamics (the last chorus). I especially love teh bit where the overdriven guitar plays the guitar melody line during the last chorus, cuz it fits so well with every other instrument. Obviously, the message is simple and powerful.

But i see it in some more detail than some:

"I'd like to close my eyes; go numb but there's a cold wind coming from the top of the highest highrise today" He wants to escape from a monotonous overborne life, but the assholes of big commerce prohibit him (where is the CEO's office? the top of the highrises) "It's not a breeze 'cuz it blows hard and it wants me to discard the humanity I know; watch the warmth bow away" He takes a lot ofshit, and the slingers of that shit want him to conform "So don't let the world bring you down not everyone here is that fucked up and cold remember why you came and while your alive experience the warmth before you grow old" The first chorus is him talking to himself, or rather preaching and self-assuring "Do you think I should adhere to that pressing new frontier, and leave in my wake a trail of fear? Or should I hold my head up high, and throw a wrench in spokes by, leaving the air behind me clear?" Then he asks a friend, perhaps, if he should break out of the mold and throw everyone off, or if he should suck it up and be 'fucked up and cold' like everyone else seems to be by destroying others' lives and leave the way clear for other fucked up souls. The second chorus is a preaching from the friend to the narrator, perhaps, or a preaching from the narrator to the listeners. The third reprise of the chorus is a loud and clear declaration of the narrator's intent - to not be a dickhead - as well as words of advice to the listeners. My p.o.v. Guess I'm long winded too.

Brandon Boyd is one of the most talented artist I've ever heard. I love this song.. love the lyrics..like to listen to this when I'm trying to sleep.

A lot of people have been saying that this song's optimistic and uplifting, which to a certain extent it is for a while, but people and this website have ignored the last lines which are "where did it go?" repeated. I interpret this song as a dig at the corporate/overly capitalistic society we've become and that you need to escape sometimes into a brighter world outside of industry and profit margins. But the last lines are telling because he says that while you can experience the warmth it is unfortunately not there to stay and gets overwhelmed by other colder influences in society. Might also be referring to a time when it didn't necessarily have to be the way it is today, or 1999 for that matter.

This is Incubus holding onto a shred of sanity after being dropped into the mainstream celebrity culture. It’s about the ritual of extracting Adrenochrome from kids. He wants to close his eyes and not watch. Go numb to not feel for these kids. But the cold comes from the top of the highest high rise. As in, the most powerful people in society. It’s not a breeze cuz it blows hard, refers to their feeling forced into adopting this new way of life by the other celebrities. And of course, they want them to leave their humanity behind. Their naive innocence is what the warmth is. And growing old refers to the exact point in life where they found out of Adrenochrome extraction.

This song is an awesoemt estiment to the power of humanity, and personal thought. Everyone who lets society bring them down and control their lives should read this song and put it on repeat. Everyone is more powerful than we are made to think, and this song tesitifes to that very thought.
