I'd like to close my eyes and go numb
But there's a cold wind coming from
The top of the highest high rise today

It's not a breeze ?cause it blows hard
Yes and it wants me to discard the humanity I know
Watch the warmth blow away

Do you think I should adhere
To that pressing new frontier
And leave in my wake a trail of fear?

Or should I hold my head up high
And throw a wrench in spokes by
Leaving the air behind me clear?

Don't let the world bring you down
Not everyone here is that fucked up and cold

Remember why you came and while you're alive
Experience the warmth before you grow old

General Comment:Ok, wow to the person who thinks this song is about a blowjob! Incubus doesn't talk about meaningless topics such as blowjobs. All their lyrics have double meanings and talk about society and a lot of political issues.

I personally LOVE this song because it gives hope to those who see the world as a 'fucked up and cold place.' The song states 'not everyone here is that fucked up and cold,' its a motivational song for those who are put down by this world. Its saying to experience life, or the good things in life before you grow old and are too tired or weary. Its saying to not be scared, don't let fear overwhelm you or keep you from experiencing much more although you want to be away from it all at times.

Its sad and hopeful all at once :)

My Interpretation:We've all had those experiences that make us question the morals of those around us. If you have ever wondered, "How could someone be so hurtful/manipulative/selfish?"-- then you can relate to the emotion of the lyrics.

However, there is reassurance that "not everyone is that fucked up

General Comment:"The Warmth" is all about the warmth one feels during a blowjob. In the first verse, Brandon recounts a partner not blowing him right. He wants to "close his eyes and go numb" while this person "blows hard." It feels alright, but it pales in comparison to his bjs, hence the reason the person blowing him is referred to as a "cold wind." When Brandon returns the favor, he says "watch the warmth blow away." It's kind of a nickname he has-'The Warmth.' Brandon is saying "experience the Warmth before you grow old," meaning you haven't experience a bj of this caliber until you get one from him. He so is so well known for this, he doesn't know if he should "adhere to this new frontier" because it leaves a "trail of fear" that he won't be pleasured in return. However, he will "hold his head up high" and go to town. When he says "leave the air behind me clear" he means to leave his anus clear of any penetration. Brandon enjoys giving bjs so much he doesn't even want his partners to waste time on fucking his ass.

General Comment:The way I see it, the song is describing someone standing on the edge of a skyscraper contemplating whether to jump off and end their life or not. At the same time its a message to the person to not let the world affect them as there are good people in the world. The general message is to understand how precious life is and to live it to the fullest "experience the warmth before you go old"

Beautifully simple lyrics. Love the song.

Song Meaning:A lot of people have been saying that this song's optimistic and uplifting, which to a certain extent it is for a while, but people and this website have ignored the last lines which are "where did it go?" repeated. I interpret this song as a dig at the corporate/overly capitalistic society we've become and that you need to escape sometimes into a brighter world outside of industry and profit margins. But the last lines are telling because he says that while you can experience the warmth it is unfortunately not there to stay and gets overwhelmed by other colder influences in society. Might also be referring to a time when it didn't necessarily have to be the way it is today, or 1999 for that matter.

My Interpretation:It seams to me that this song is about suicide, or considering suicide. He's at the top of a high-rise and all of the messed up stuff of the world is trying to blow him off the side. He simply wants to experience the warmth before he grows old, and that's how he talks himself out of it.

General Comment:the warmth is definitely not talking about weed.
no offense, but just because your high doesn't mean you suddenly understand this song because it's not about that at all.

it is indeed about how people do fucked up things and will try and make you feel bad about yourself, but you need to understand that not everyone is like that, and to make sure you feel the warmth of their love before your life ends, and don't take it for granted.
