[Aladdin:] I can show you the world
Shining, shimmering, splendid
Tell me, princess, now when did
You last let your heart decide?
I can open your eyes
Take you wonder by wonder
Over, sideways and under
On a magic carpet ride
A whole new world
A new fantastic point of view
No one to tell us no
Or where to go
Or say we're only dreaming
[Jasmine:] A whole new world
A dazzling place I never knew
But when I'm way up here
It's crystal clear
That now I'm in a whole new world with you
[Aladdin:] Now I'm in a whole new world with you
[Jasmine:] Unbelievable sights
Indescribable feeling
Soaring, tumbling, freewheeling
Through an endless diamond sky
A whole new world
[Aladdin:] Don't you dare close your eyes
[Jasmine:] A hundred thousand things to see
[Aladdin:] Hold your breath - it gets better
[Jasmine:] I'm like a shooting star
I've come so far
I can't go back to where I used to be
[Aladdin:] A whole new world
[Jasmine:] Every turn a surprise
[Aladdin:] With new horizons to pursue
[Jasmine:] Every moment red-letter
[Both:] I'll chase them anywhere
There's time to spare
Let me share this whole new world with you
A whole new world
That's where we'll be
[Aladdin:] A thrilling chase
[Jasmine:] A wondrous place
[Both:] For you and me

General Comment:What the song is about is love and sex. Let me explain. The song describes a journey of lovers and the man is trying to persuade the girl to be his for a night or forever. I think the girl is going through an euphoria (emotional condition in which a person experiences intense feelings of well-being, elation, happiness, excitement, and joy) that she may have after having sex or from just being in love. They are starting a whole new world with each other, experiencing new things, probably making love for the first time. It's the excitement of being in love. Sex included.

My Opinion:I love how whenever someone thinks a song is about anything other than love, their subjective opinions are automatically considered being completely wrong.

Isn't that what this site is all about? Expressing your personal opinions regarding the underlying meaning(s) of a song?

Bluewanka4fun and komodosp aren't more wrong than anyone else.

Me, I think this song is totally about sex. To me it's obvious.

My Opinion:Can ANYONE just look through the eyes of a kid for ONE SECOND and listen to the voices and the lyrics of this song WITHOUT their mind in the GUTTER?

For one thing, this is from a KID'S movie, and no matter what you think of Disney, it is age appropriate as long as you stay simplistic enough to have a literal view in your mind. We all have our own opinions, but honestly, let's be realistic here. Its because of people who think like this, thinking with a dirty and tainted mind, that the world can be as scary as it is. Did you notice how naive Jasmine is as she follows this stranger from the MARKETPLACE to his HOUSE? No one would ever do that anymore due to people wanting to take advantage of others. Not everyone thinks like you do, and maybe, just MAYBE, they didn't mean that much when they were saying a whole new world? Try to at least get your minds up from the dirt that society is sinking in and wash yourself off with some water.

You all are entitled to your own opinions and its in the eyes of the beholder here, but seriously, lets try to use some common sense and figure out that if they are playing this movie AND the song within it on DISNEY JUNIOR, where they still play shows like Winnie the Pooh, that this just may not be the real meaning.

General Comment:komodosp i don't know what the heck your smoking.

1.) she was in fact a princess so him calling her "princess" seems fitting and in no way derogatory

2.)When did you last let your heart decide. aladdin is asking her when was the last time that she did something because she felt it was right and not what was expected of her because of her being high society.

3.)he is telling her that she is her own entity with the power of free will

4.)Jasmine for the first time is seeing true beauty in nature and realizing that the beauty of nature is as precious as diamonds.

5.)In all classic literature, and in literature still today though not as prevalent, the color red was symbolic of lust, not just sexual lust, in this case the lust is that of forbidden love. read the scarlet letter, you might learn something

General Comment:Sex? Drugs? Don't be ridiculous! This is a satire of the ignorance of the bourgeois classes, a spoilt upper class girl is being shown the lives of the proletariat.

"Princess" is obviously a derogatory (sp?) word used to refer to the girl.

"When did you last let your heart decide?" is a reference to the deliberate ignorance, Out-of-sight-out-of-mind mentality... They would never stop and consider the plight of the poorer folk.

"No one to tell you 'No' or where to go or say you're only dreaming", the "princess" can have whatever she wants.

The "endless diamond sky" is the girl finally beginning to realise that all her wealth comes in fact from the workers, "Don't you dare close your eyes" - The working class boy urging her to accept the truth.

"Every moment red-letter" - Red being the colour of socialism, of course.

General Comment:Ugh. Yes, this song could be talking about drugs, it could be talking about sex... if you WANT it to.

I definatly agree with midnightsunrising. A song can mean anything if you can twist the words with double meanings.

It doesnt really matter, though. This will always be my favorite romantic disney song.

General Comment:it's Unbelievable SIGHTS...You only hear what you want to hear. Disney has a long enough history of subliminal messaging (placed in by rogue faculty) without you making more up. Read the lyrics, and for your own sake, don't make pre-judgements about your own false versions.

BTW, it's ROMANCE everyone. Sex happens to be what romance leads to, so get over it. Thats what happens in a romantic relationship, so stop trying to make this out to be a shock. Certainly only the mature can understand this, and the children viewing this don't make the connection, but they do have some idea of what love is. for the record, this song is only explicit if you want it to be. Subliminal messaging is one thing, but honestly...

General Comment:bluewanka4fun is totally right. It's a little-known fact that Disney is a huge social commentator on drug use around the world. For example, "White Rabbit" was cut from the final version of Alice in Wonderland only because the producers at the time felt that it was in their best interests to stay as close to the canon as possible. However, the deleted scenes still exist inside Disney's vault, although it is unlikely they will be shown to the public anytime soon. Aladdin is obviously Disney's critique of the Middle East's largest export. Other examples include The Jungle Book, which dissected the ways in which illegal arms fuel gang wars between drug cartels. Louie, the "King of the Jungle," wants the same fire power that "the Man" has so he can expand his territory. By disguising these messages in children's films, they are able to sneak under the radar, but they exist for those who know how to find them.
