Lyrics for Take The Money And Run as interpreted by oofus

Take The Money And Run Lyrics
This here's a story about Billy Joe and Bobbie Sue
Two young lovers with nothin' better to do
Than sit around the house, get high, and watch the tube
And here is what happened when they decided to cut loose

They headed down to, ooh, old El Paso
That's where they ran into a great big hassle
Billy Joe shot a man while robbing his castle
Bobbie Sue took the money and run

Go on take the money and run
Go on take the money and run
Go on take the money and run
Go on take the money and run

Billy Mack is a detective down in Texas
You know he knows just exactly what the facts is
He ain't gonna let those two escape justice
He makes his livin' off of the people's taxes

Bobbie Sue, whoa, whoa, she slipped away
Billy Joe caught up to her the very next day
They got the money, hey
You know they got away
They headed down south and they're still running today
Singin' go on take the money and run
Go on take the money and run
Go on take the money and run
Go on take the money and run
Go on take the money and run
Go on take the money and run
Go on take the money and run
Go on take the money and run

This song kicks ass if for no other reason than because it successfully rhymes
"Texas"
"facts is"
"justice"
and "taxes".

This song does kick ass. I went to the SMB concert this last Thursday and he didn't play this one. I heard all the other classics but kept waiting to hear about Billy Joe and Bobbi Sue but I never did...

"Hey Billie Joe?"
"Yes, Bobbie Sue?"
"I'm bored."
"Me too. I'm sick of being dirt poor and livin' in a trailer."
"I have an idea!"
"What is it?"
"Let's go rob a bank."
"No way!"
"Way!"

To me this song is about to rebels who decide to break free from the system and a corrupt cop is trying to catch them. Its basicaly like the "good guys" are actualy the bad guys and the two robbers are kind of legends that no one can catch...and of course robbing stuff.

I've heard the clapping is a nod to "Deep in the Heart of Texas", and that's why it only happens when the lyric is Texas...

It's like Bonnie and Clyde updated to the 70's. This is a great song, especially for driving really, really fast-what a rush!

As stories go, it's kind of sketchy.

It introduces the detective, and then never does anything with him. That always bothered me.

And I bet if someone broke into your house and shot you, you'd be pretty glad that we have taxpayer-supported police to track them down.
