You're heart is served cold
You're sights are set in perfect stone,
And when you go you go alone,
And when you stand you're on your own,

I wash the streets from your skin when you come home X2

We're nothing like friends,
You have no time to lend,
And if you're guilt then I'm the shame,
And if I'm hurt then you're the blame

You wash my trace from your skin and you leave again X2

Random laid plans, 40 days of one night stands,
And when you go you go alone
You walk the cross you made your own

I wash the streets from your skin when you come home X2

General Comment:this song is SOOO ME!! and i can see that you got it different way, which is just an evidence of how sneaker pimps texts are mystic and can be understood differently (and not wrong), depending on person's perspective...

as a young man who has alot of girlies with whom i share some kind of emotions, i understand this song's describing one platon realtionship between two.. they have passionate sex, they do share something more in common, but one side (in this case, that would be him) doesn't have a courage to strenghten their relationship.. he keeps telling that they are just friends in public and that they are nothing more than that. Now, this song is from girl's perspective of course.. and lines like 'we're nothin like friends' represent the truth that everybody see, but guy doesn't want to step yet into relationship and he 'washes her trace from his skin and he leaves (her) again, even though she washes streets (partying with friends and other girls, solitude) from his skin when he comes home (when he comes to her)'.. so they end up with random laid plans, 40 night of one night stands and so on and so forth...

i would just like to point out big error in opening lyrics:

it's not 'you're heart is served cold' - that doesn't make any sense
it's 'your heart is served cold' - she wants to tell that he hides his emotions and that hurts her

and it's not 'you're sight is set in perfect stone', it's 'your sight are set in perfect stone' - i think that this means that there is some kind of stupid principal that he follows, and that means - no serious relationships!

all in all, sneaker pimps becoming x is an absolute album and absolute trip hop and lyrical classic.. this album means so much to me

    cheers everyone

General Comment:Its a lot like caring for someone who may be an addict of some sort "the streets". The references to the relationship don't seem to be romantic "We're nothing like friends" but a fight for the life and of a loved one who's path is damaging a significant relationship. The resistance to stay and be loved or cared for " You wash my trace from your skin and you leave again", is because she does not agree with the persons lifestyle or actions "if you're guilt then I'm the shame" . "Random laid plans, 40 days of one night stands" obviously someone terribly impulsive and over indulgent like most addicts who binge for days and wander aimlessly searching for their vices. Saying "wash my trace from your skin" is like ripping off a band aid that was protecting a wound. The part that is spoken I am unclear about "love is boards, Life left ....."

General Comment:That insert that sounds like a mantra ("oooh, life, death....") I'm pretty sure is a recording from the opening sequence of 'Guru Sri Chinmoy Aphorism' by Carlos Santana and Alice Coltrane's album, Illuminations. Just an interesting note.

General Comment:This song's to me has a big effect. I think most of it is because of a rough breakup i am going through with my ex. He was controlling abusive and what not.. he cheated on me and everything.

When she say's your heart is served cold.
Reminds me of my ex, the drugs turn his heart cold

His sights were always set in perfect stone, thing's were alway's his way or no way

And when he goes out, he goes alone.

He had no time to lend, because he was always at his tattoo shop cheating on me

And i was always the shame to his guilt... in his eye's

Toward's the end he was having one night stand's

I alway's took him in, knowing what he had just done, i had alway's made believe it didn't happen. Took him in and acted like nothing was wrong. So it's like i washed him of his memory of it, or changed time, i got rid of the filth

And before he leave's the next day for work, he would wash my trace away, and do the same thing the next day.

General Comment:what i get from this song is that defines a relationship I ended a few months ago...this relationship could be summed up in that phrase "40 days of one night stands", which means me and this girl had this kind of "agreement" of sticking only to sex without commitment, has long as we both felt like it...

    "You're heart is served cold
You're sights are set in perfect stone,
And when you go you go alone,
And when you stand you're on your own"
the first part reflects that during the time were apart from each other, we see each other in this spectrum

    "We're nothing like friends,
You have no time to lend,
And if you're guilt then I'm the shame,
And if I'm hurt then you're the blame"
now this part is tricky, since we both dont have a normal relationship, so we dont know how to feel exactly

"Random laid plans, 40 days of one night stands,
And when you go you go alone
You walk the cross you made your own"
summing up what the relationship is like

"I wash the streets from your skin when you come home" - she feels like shes taking all my sorrows from the world, the routines of the day, etc....

"You wash my trace from your skin and you leave again" - because after sex I would leave, making my way again through the streets

This song made me see her perspective (I think) of all....this we had....kinda left me wonderin if she ever wanted a little more commitment...who knows...

General Comment:For some reason, I always felt like he was cheating on her. That's why she always washed away the streets, aka another chick. And she washed away her trace because he would just go back and forth between the two. I feel like the entire song fits...

General Comment:Liam: "A slab of self loathing. Not just living the worst kind of life, but actually nurturing it, caring dor it. Complete dependance and desperate need. What is done is done - a little water clears us of this deed."

General Comment:i think that an abusive relationship is possible but i think that maybe this is a song from a womans perspective about being the other woman in a affair. "you wash my trace from your skin and you leave again"

    We're nothing like friends,
You have no time to lend,
And if you're guilt then I'm the shame,
And if i'm hurt then you're the blame

    just a thought.

General Comment:what osubuckeye420 said is so true, which in turn describes my relationship with my exhusband to the "T"

    We're nothing like friends,
You have no time to lend,
And if you're guilt then I'm the shame,
And if I'm hurt then you're the blame
