Lyrics for Sympathy for the Devil as interpreted by oofus

Sympathy for the Devil Lyrics
Please allow me to introduce myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for a long long year stolen many a man's soul and faith
I was around Jesus Christ had his moment of doubt and pain
Made damn sure that Pilate washed his hands and sealed his fate
Pleased to meet you hope you guess my name
But what's puzzling you is the nature of my game

Stuck around St. Petersburg when I saw it was a time for a change
Killed the Tzar and his ministers; Anastaria screamed in vain
I rode a tank held a gen'rals rank when the blitzkrieg
raged and the bodies stank
Pleased to meet you hope your guess my name, oh yeah
Ah what's puzzling you is the nature of my game, oh yeah

I watched the glee while your kings and queens fought for
ten decades for the Gods they made
I shouted out "who killed the Kennedy's?" when after all it was you and me
Let me please introduce myself I'm a man of wealth and taste
And I lay traps for troubadors who get killed before they reach Bombay

Pleased to meet you hope you guess my name, oh yeah
But what's puzzling you is the nature of my game, oh yeah

Pleased to meet you hope you guess my name
But what's confusin you is just the nature of my game

Just as every cop is a criminal
And all the sinners saints
As heads is tails
Just call me Lucifer
'Cause I'm in need of some restraint

So if you meet me Have some courtesy
Have some sympathy, and some taste
Use all your well-learned politesse
Or I'll lay your soul to waste, um yeah

Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, um yeah
But what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, um mean it, get down

Woo, who
Oh yeah, get on down
Oh yeah
Oh yeah!

Tell me baby, what's my name
Tell me honey, can ya guess my name
Tell me baby, what's my name
I tell you one time, you're to blame

oh, who
woo, woo
Woo, who
Woo, woo
Woo, who, who
Woo, who, who
Oh, yeah

What's my name
Tell me, baby, what's my name
Tell me, sweetie, what's my name

Woo, who, who
Woo, who, who
Woo, who, who
Woo, who, who
Woo, who, who
Woo, who, who
Oh, yeah
Woo woo
Woo woo

You're right bowen, this is their best song but they don't have alot of them. Sorry if I'm offending anyone but this band is the most overrated band ever.

------Led Zeppelin anyone?--------------

"I agree, 9/11 would be in this song if it was written later."

Arguable as each of these events save the crucifixion were non-religious events, and from the non-Christian perspective the crucifixion(i can't spell, ugh) was a very political matter.

The best part of this song is Keith Richard's solo.

This song really isnt that significant, its just saying how the devil is involved in most wrong things, although some people cant guess his name, but if u read the lyrics it says u can call him lucifer so that gives it away, The Stones are awesome, but u like the gnr better

This is a great song, just the beat kicks a$$, i like the g n r version better, but The Stones made this masterpiece, this will live on as one of the most debatable songs in the history of music, it has many great points and i believe that "lucifer" satan was present in most of them, thats all i got to say about that.

Are you all fucking kidding me? The G 'n R version sucks compared to this masterpiece. They completely butcher it in every way, starting in the first few secons. I mean axle doen't even sing it, he drawls like hes drunk. Some people say thats his appeal, I say hes actually trying to sing and just can't do it. You want a real vocalist, look no further than Mick Jagger. The only one better in history, in my opinion anyway, is Freddy Mercury. Now that man has pipes. Anyway, great song. ONE of their best, their whole catalog is great.

That is right about Axl killing everything he touches. I',m sure that if asked any of his band members they would say that he is a jackass. Anyways great song and I absolutely love the solo and the whole guitar part for that matter. The meaning is like the devil supposedly caused all wrong and they have sympathy for him. thank you

" Just call me Lucifer 'Cause I'm in need of some restraint " ... Interesting play on words here, Lucifer phonetically sounds like loose-if-er and suggesting needing-restraint . The writer appears to be dabbling with double-meaning and/or meaning-flip but I'm not sure that it's going anywhere in this song.

Axl is a jackass. The GNR version of this sucks. Only the Stones could do it right.

The Rolling Stones are the greatest rock band ever. Thats not open to discussion. This song is a masterpiece. Many other Stones songs are masterpieces. Guns n Roses did not suck but their version of this song did. Axl Rose is an over-rated whiny little sissy. Led Zeppelin is the second greatest rock band ever.

That's not too far off from my top 5 but I'm not much into The Who. I'd say:
1.Stones
2.Zeppelin
3.Pink Floyd
4.Beatles
5. 70s Aerosmith
That's classic rock only otherwise I'd probably include Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam. I guess you're excluding Hendrix?

I will say this--Led Zeppelin didn't put out any crap. I own all of their album's and there's only 2 or 3 songs I don't like. The Stones, on the other hand, have put out loads of garbage, especially post-Tattoo You in 1981. But they were just so frikkin great before that.
