Everything is exactly right
When I walk around here drunk every night
With an open container from 7-11
In st. ides heaven

I've been out haunting the neighborhood
And everybody can see I'm no good
When I'm walking out between parked cars
With my head full of stars

High on amphetamines
The moon is a lightbulb breaking
It'll go around with anyone
But it won't come down for anyone

You think you know what brings me down
That I want those things you could never allow
You see me smiling you think it's a frown
Turned upside down

'Cause everyone is a fucking pro
And they all got answers from trouble they've known
And they all got to say what you should and shouldn't do
Though they don't have a clue

High on amphetamines
The moon is a lightbulb breaking
It'll go around with anyone
But it won't come down for anyone

And I won't come down for anyone

    General Comment:En Español...

    St. Ides Heaven

    Todo está en lo cierto
Cuando camino por aquí borracho cada noche
Con un recipiente abierto de 7-11 de St.Ides Heaven

    He estado rondando el barrio

    ;)

    My Opinion:"Everything is exactly right
When I walk around here drunk every night"

So true, and so well put. By far on my top 5 Elliott Smith songs.

General Comment:This song was my ex-boyfriends favourite Elliot Smith song.

"You think you know what brings me down
That I want those things you could never allow
You see me smiling, you think it's a frown
    Turned upside down
Because everyone is a fucking pro
And they all got answers from trouble they've known"

Everytime I smiled, he kept bitchin' about how I'm faking, how I'm not really happy.
He'd be insecure about me hating everything, when I'd love everything.
He always brought up his past, my past. He delved too deeply into everything.

I hope he's listening to this song now, and I hope he fucking settles down.

General Comment:This song reminds me of a friend who drinks a lot of St Ide's malt liqour. He says that just having an open 40 in his hand immediately relives his anxiety. The first part sums up my friend well.

General Comment:a lightbulb breaking might refer to the practice of smoking meth out of a lightbulb.

although adderall is an amphetamine as well, similar effects to meth.

I think 'head full of stars' refers to the way lights look when you're high on addies/meth, twinkling like lens flares. it's beautiful. I can't describe it, I've heard it referred to as 'starring' though.

I like the intervention interpretation too.

Turned upside down. << what do people think of these lines? Someone said it's about auto-assoicating someone (him) with negativity. This isn't what i get from it though.

Incidentally, I never knew what St Ides was before. I see now that it's some kind of "malt" beer in the USA. Cheap by the looks of it on Wikipedia. makes more sense now.

So, did Elliott Smith wonder the streets every night with an open can of beer?

General Comment:I think this song is THE Elliott Smith "trademark" song, at least to me.
I love it...captures the essence of Smiths music and personality. Its one of Elliott's prefered live-song...makes sense to me.
