[Chorus]
I like pleasure spiked with pain
and music is my aeroplane
It's my aeroplane
Songbird sweet and sour Jane
and music is my aeroplane
It's my aeroplane
Pleasure spiked with pain
that mother fucker always spiked with pain

I
Looking in my own eyes "hello"
I can't find the love I want
Someone better slap me
Before I start to rust
Before I start to decompose
Looking in my rear view mirror
Looking in my rear view mirror
I can make it disappear
I can make it disappear "have no fear"

[Chorus]

Sitting in my kitchen "hey girl
I'm turning into dust again
My melancholy baby
The star of mazzy must
Push her voice inside of me
I'm overcoming gravity
I'm overcoming gravity
It's easy when you're sad to be
It's easy when you're sad "said 'bout me"

[Chorus]

Just one note
Could make me float
Could make me float away
One note from
The song she wrote
Could fuck me where I lay
Just one note
Could make me choke
One note that's
Not a lie
Just one note
Could cut my throat
One could make me die

My Interpretation:"Looking in my own eyes "hello""
I think this is about analyse yourself, like when you're not ok and open your eyes and someone says "hello?", but when you do it yourself.

    "I can't find the love I want"
I think it talks about love (duh), like when you can't find a "new love", something new to inspire you.

"Someone better slap me, before I start to rust, before I start to decompose"
You're stuck into something you have to wake up from.

"Looking in my rear view mirror"
    Looking into your memories.

"I can make it disappear "have no fear""
Cause music is your aeroplane, your escape.

At least, I think this song is about things in our life that we like at first, but then we lost it and the memory turns into pain cause we're not really able to "find the love we want" and we got stuck into something who was like "songbird sweet" but now it's "sour jane." Anyway, we like this pleasure cause it's spiked with pain cause we got music that is our escape, our aeroplane.

Btw, I don't believe most of their music is about drug addiction.

General Comment:I think you are making it so difficult, yep.. they write a lot about drug addiction and this song is also a bit about it, but I think that this song is mostly about how music is his drug. I think it is not just me, who music helped in life, to feel better. Musice is my aeroplane what gets me up every time I fail:)

    Song Meaning:Music is my... heroin
That's what he's trying to say.
If you listen a live version, you'll hear how Kiedis sings almost "heroi-plane"

Other than that, agreed with Polack

Lyric Correction:Has anyone stopped to question these lyrics.. I don't know about you but when I read "Songbird Sweet and Sour Jane" that just doesn't right to me, infact I do not even hear that being pronounced. I believe the actual lyric is "Somber Sweet and Sour Jane" listen to it again, see what you think!!

    General Comment:dear kids...
Some of you, thinks that drugs are always the main theme for song's writting.
Especially for songs that, somehow, fitting in the hearts of most of us.
I don't claim that drugs that maybe some bands/artists/creators/poets may use, don't play their role in their artwork...but....beware.....
some people that have the ability to play with their minds, digging themselfs...and after all give us a piece of artwork...are very sensitive....

    ....but anyway...

the final artwork (lyrics+music) for me, is what exactly has to be....perfect...
that song, is a song of the heart...of my heart, if you like
    ..and i like it!

as for the explanation of lyrics.....
some people here have mention nice ideas about that song, without having to deal with drugs...

only one question....for everyone who may know something...
Why the composer choose to use kid's voices at the end of the song?
Why they dont used some drugged friends of them to sing together?

    i'm asking because i'm a kid....and you know, i'm very curius!

My Interpretation:To me this song is about a constant painful state of mind that ebbs only with a certain breed of music, perhaps the cure comes from a certain musician(as they name a Mazzy). He relies on this music for a peaceful state of mind and seems worried about any truth this music/musician may release.

To me he wants the sugar coated version, and he is selfish in wanting this for himself as it would cause him to be cast in an ugly light.

Pretty much, keep the secret, lie for me and I will continue this enjoyable ride until "Mazzy" decides to speak the truth that will be his demise.

My Opinion:I think the song is about someone who is down about a girl/band/time or place and is forced to turn to music to lift themselves to a better state of mind.

    i think your right

I Thought the line "I like pleasure spiked with pain" was a dead give-away that it was about drug addiction

General Comment:I can't believe all these people that know about the band's history with drugs and they couldn't figure this out. No offense, but do they live in a bubble?
