Lyrics for Aeroplane as interpreted by PrismPuck

Aeroplane Lyrics
I like pleasure spiked with pain
And music is my aeroplane
It's my aeroplane
Songbird sweet and sour Jane
That music is my aeroplane
It's my aeroplane

Pleasure spiked with pain
That motherfucker's always spiked with pain

Looking in my own eyes
I can't find the love I want
Someone better slap me
Before I start to rust
Before I start to decompose

Looking in my rear view mirror
Looking in my rear view mirror
I can make it disappear
I can make it disappear
Have no fear

I like pleasure spiked with pain
And music is my aeroplane
It's my aeroplane
Songbird sweet and sour Jane
That music is my aeroplane
It's my aeroplane

Pleasure spiked with pain
That motherfucker's always spiked with pain

Sitting in my kitchen
Hey, girl
I'm turning into dust again
My melancholy baby
The star of Mazzy must
Push her voice inside of me

I'm overcoming gravity
I'm overcoming gravity
It's easy when you're sad to be
It's easy when you're sad
Sad like me

I like pleasure spiked with pain
And music is my aeroplane
It's my aeroplane
Songbird sweet and sour Jane
That music is my aeroplane
It's my aeroplane

Pleasure spiked with pain
That motherfucker's always spiked with pain

Pleasure spiked with pain...

Just one note
Could make me float
Could make me float away
One note from
The song she wrote
Could fuck me where I lay
Just one note
Could make me choke
One note that's
Not a lie
Just one note
Could cut my throat
One note could make
Me die

I like pleasure spiked with pain
And music is my aeroplane
It's my aeroplane
Songbird sweet and sour Jane
That music is my aeroplane
It's my aeroplane

Pleasure spiked with pain
That motherfucker's always spiked with pain

chorus of children:
Aeroplane...
It's my aeroplane!

Here's my two pennies for it.

He's lonely, and has been lonely for a long time. Music is his only pleasure, bshburn explained that one.
He looks back at his past (looking in my rear mirror) at how lonely he has been and is, and believes he can change that (i can make it disappear), and that there are someone out there for him. And he needs a push or something so he can find that person before it's too late (someone better slap me before I start to rust).

Something like that, I think...

i'm sure you're all right, but to me, this song is just about music being this magical thing that cures all his pain. yay for music :) besides, RHCP have amazing musicians.

Actualy i believe you're all wrong.. wait! dont crack it just yet.. hear me out.. You all seem to have agreed that this song is really positive, but i dont think it is. Anthony Kiedis is notorious for riddling happy songs with sad lyrics (listen and read the lyrics to 'My lovely man' or 'taste the pain' for an example)

I believe this song is about drug addiction. During the relaease of 'One Hot Minute' Anthony Kiedis had slipped back into drugs as soon as he started making music again. He admitted it in numerous interviews, saying that replacing Hillel again made him depressed and he couldnt cope. Thats why he says he hated making One Hot Minute, because it brought up all his old pain about Hillel Slovak's death etc.

So I think the song is about making music provoking him to do drugs and be depressed again. Read the lyrics over and it makes sense-
Looking in my rear mirror
I can make it disappear

He's depressed when he thinks what happened and thinks he can make it go away
I like pleasure spiked w/pain
Music is my aeroplane

Did anyone even think that pleasure spiked with pain might be a reference to a syringe?? Music is his catalyst to returning to his old ways

I'm overcoming gravity

Preety self explanatory, hes getting high

Just one note
Could make me float
Could make me float away
One note from
The song she wrote
Could fuck me where I lay
Just one note
Could make me choke
One note that's
Not a lie
Just one note
Could cut my throat
One could make me die

If you think this is positive ur kidding urself. Hes saying that listening to musioc is dangerous to him, because when he listens to it he wants to get high and float away, and thats what happened to Hillel when he overdosed while he was painting and listening to Jane Byrd on his record player.

Now i know most of you will just skip this cos its too long...ah crap

Polak...i soooo totally agree with you!

"Songbird sweet and sour Jane
It's my aeroplane "

I beleive he is using contrast (sweet and sour?!) between the music and drugs saying together they are his aeroplane.

For all those non-smokers out there Jane is a reference to weed.

I still have trouble believing this song is by RCHP. It's just so different from all their other stuff. And what he hell is an aeroplane?

ahhhh flattery.... thanks for inflating my head!
I met the band backstage once but besides that i dont know them.. to answer your question i figured this out because im utterly, hopelessly obsessed with this band and ive heard the songs so many times and read so many things the band has said that it just sorta fits these days... i can probably tell you a story about any song they ever made.. (sad i know)

hmm i see, well i think ur explanation is very good, and fits superbly. although dont get too carried away guys! like sum1 here said, knowing the message the feel of the song (thats wat polak did)...is fine, but not actually listening to it and unrestless til u find a meaning is TOO FAR. some songs dont really have a great a meaning :(, i thought this was just about music bein happy, but polak has proved me wrong! (i prefer my theory better, more cheery heehee)

I think "Music" is used instead of the name of a drug. Like "Heroin is my aeroplane" or "Marijuana is my aeroplane." I also think that the "songbird sweet and sour Jane" line is a reference to drugs.

since this is such a good song, i like the lyrics but just try to ignore the drug reference (i agree Polak) cause its negative. oh well.

"and music is my aeroplane" "and music is my aerosmith?" lol...music is what gets him high, it's what does it for him...(along with a few other things, lol)...anyway pleasure spiked with pain, could that be heroine? sounds possible or he could just be one of those people who are into pain as pleasure sort of thing, but unfortuently i guess they're kinda labled as a band who sings about drugs a lot...btw i saw them 5/19 @ contiental..a few complaints, only played 1hr 45minutes, didnt play dosed, californication, warped, higher ground, aeroplane, or love rollercoaster (i assumed they didnt play warped or aeroplane because those were the navarro days, and love rollercoaster and higher ground because they arent originals, but come on..no dosed or californication?) they did kick ass for the short time they were out there, flea ruled, just woulda liked to have heard some more of them i guess....
