Nevermind the Pac Jam
Nevermind the Gap Band
Nevermind the Zap Band
Nevermind the Funk Scam
'Cause we're
The Red Hot Chili Peppers

Nevermind the British bands
Nevermind the synth funk bands
Nevermind the Wham Wham band
Nevermind Duran Duran
'Cause we're
The Red Hot Chili Peppers

Nevermind the Soft Cell shit
That's strictly for the twits
Nevermind the Men At Work
Those tunes are for the jerks
'Cause we're

Nevermind the Culture Club
That jive's just one big flub
'Cause we're

General Comment:The intro is almost ripped directly from an old 1973 song called "Sport" by Lightnin' Rod, I think Eazy-E actually sampled the beat from the song as well, It's one of those mad old funk/soul/booogie songs that is the whole backbone of the rap genre. You can find it on VA ultimate breaks and beats vol 19.

It was a full moon in the middle of june in the summer of 59
I was young and cool and shot a bad game of pool and hustled all the chumps I could find
Well now they call me sport cause' I push the bar short and loved all the women to death
I partied hard, packed a mean rod and could knock you out with a right or left
I learned to shoot pool playing hooky from school at the tender age of 9
and by the time I was 11 I could pad roll 7 and down your whole quarter wine
    etc...

Anthony sings it the same but with slightly altered lyrics, the original is pretty rough.

General Comment:I really do love this song. It's so hilarious in its putdowns. The "flapping cheeks" of Anthony at the end is very funny also. It's kind of like what a whole lot of solo/group rap artists have been doing for many years, but in waaayyy too many of their tracks. This is the only one they've done like this, and that's the way it should be, putting those tracks to shame with its numerous and clear insults... Dunno if other bands at the time ever did anything similar, though.

General Comment:Ha, this song is an "audacious putdown of a variety of other bands (Gap Band, Duran Duran, Soft Cell, Men at Work, Hall and Oates), telling the wolrd to forget about them, because we were what they were going to be into now."

General Comment:he probably just said summer of '59 because it rhymes with his next sentence. he didnt mean it literally, because he knows that he was born in 1962, even though on an interview cd he did with flea, he says his b-day is November 1, 1912... jokingly, and flea says his is October 16, 1837. but anyways this is a good song. It's basically about them being better than the other bands of that time. this song is on freaky styley, and i guess the band was still trying to get people to listen to them. they did a damn good job, the chili's fuckin' rule.

General Comment:Egocentric? There ain't nuttin' wrong with giving the music industry the finger :D
Then again, 50 Cent and all his homeboys do it all the time by just being in it so maybe not....

General Comment:Ahh Anthony still has style. I think he just found a new way, less aggressive rap but more soulful.
