I would like to reach out my hand
See you
Tell you to run
Pick me up with golden hand
See you
Tell you to run
I would like to hold my little hand
How we will run We will
How we will crawl We will
I would like you to hold my little hand
How we will run We will
How we will crawl

Send me on my way
Send me on my way
Send me on my way

General Comment:the general consensus on lyric websites is that he says
"you know what they say about the young" (8 sites)
    but some websites provides alternatives:
"nobody safe, nobody on" (3 sites)
"nobody say, nobody young" (1 site)
"bummela say, bummela ahh" (1 site)
    "momadisay momadiyah" (1 site)
    (3 sites)

It doesn't really sound anything like "you know what they say about the young"... does anybody have any hard and fast proof that that is what he is saying?

If you watch this video, it's pretty clear that "nobody say, nobody on" is much closer to what he's saying: youtube.com/…

My Interpretation:My interpretation may be influenced by the song's association with "Matilda", but I feel that the song is about wishing that you could talk to your past self and help 'you' through some of your tough times and 'send you on your way', particularly yourself as a child.

I see this due to lines like: "I would like to reach out my hand" and "I would like to hold my little hand", the hand doing the holding is normal sized, but the hand being held is 'little', both the holder and the one being held are the same person, hence I think it's the singer at to different points in his life, as a child and now.

He's saying whatever tough times we go through in life, things will always get brighter and if only our future selves could go back and tell us that when we feel sad, it would be so much easier to 'get on our way'. :)

General Comment:I adore this song tremendously. Not because it reminds me of a movie, but because to me it is about acceptance and just learning to go with the flow. It's like saying that the road ahead may be tough, but we'll make it through even if we have to crawl. No worries.

General Comment:I thinbk it is about somebody telling someone to take life as it comes. I would like to run are the good parts

and I would like to crawl the bad parts of life

and they are both what makeslife great

But I also think you can intrepet this song in many, many ways and thaT is probably the point of the song well maybe..

General Comment:My childhood friend and I always thought this song was "The Simmian Way" like the "Simmians" were some kind of wise old mystical tribe or forgotten culture that held all of the secrets to life. Listen to the song and tell me you don't hear it. Sihh-mee-an-way!

We'd wonder to ourselves "Like, who are the Simmians, man? What is the way." How saddened we were when we learned the real lyrics. I still refuse to believe it, and to this day sing about the "Simmians" and their knowledge and wisdom.

General Comment:I think the song is completely about freedom and living your life the way you want to, living so you have no regrets. In the video you see a child who gains wings, this is ultimate representation of freedom. Also in the video there are some symbol that people keep saying are cult symbol, such as the eye of illumination, this once again represents the idea of freedom and enlightenment. At the point where he says
"I may see you, I may tell you to run
You know what they say about the young"

thats them telling you to be random and unpredictable as mentioned in trasta119's comment.

How we will run, we will...
How we will crawl, we will...

this speaks of how they we will do anything to get to their destination, to life destination,

the song is rather deep and really touched me deep down

Memory:It's a very personal meaning, but I associate this song with the cat I grew up with, Whiskers. He was 20 years old (!) when this song came out, and he was in failing health. Finally, it was clear he was in pain from kidney failure. I was with him when we put him to sleep and I helped bury him under his favorite tree. I guess - it was the best thing I could do at the time, to send him on his way, to release him from the agony he was in. And that it sounded so joyful in spite of it, I don't know. Because he had a full life, and he deserved to feel joy again.
