Lyrics for A Fine Day For A Parade as interpreted by aniota

A Fine Day For A Parade Lyrics
Mrs. Carver says she sorry
She knows enough to worry
But what does she know about crime?
Believes the town is sinking
The price of forward thinking
You stay up all night half the time
Racking your mind
Alone at night
While all the neighbors sleep tight
Years ago she lsot her daughter
Off to a sacred order
Where they get stoned and work the earth
Clears up her head with bourbon
Cause beer is so suburban
She drinks it down down down
For all of the old old days
She's thinking of it now
It's nice to get away
But what a fine day for a parade
She says up mending curtains
Until her fingers hurt, and
You can get so bored of it all
No one can say for certain
She'll never safely know when
An asteroid will kill us all
She drinks it down down down
For all of the old old days
She's thinking of it now
It's nice to get away
But what a fine day for a parade

this is about the descent of a lonely woman whose children have left the nest and all she has to comfort herself with is alcohol and curtain mending. another cool tune too, one of my favourites. anyways, that's what i think...

yeah i think its pretty evident what its about. except the title line. which i think kind of is like her semi-drunken lonely near-madness, like for all we know, there is no parade, but she covers up the problems in her life with "what a fine day for a parade." i think this is prob the best song on utopia pkwy.

It's a little more complicated than the above comments. If you remember, it says "she lost her daughter off to a sacred order...". The sacred order is a cult (...where they get stoned and work the earth" and the parade is a metaphor for a group of people who do what everyone else does, acts like everyone else... like a cult.

reminds me of the cult suicides etc around the Hale-Bopp comet coming in '97. "Years ago she lost her daughter
off to a sacred order where they get stoned and work the earth" & "She'll never safely know when an asteroid will kill us all". This song was written not long after the events. Just a thought :)

to me this song offers the message that everything will be alright in the end. regardless of what's gone before today is a fine day for a parade. just like in mexican wine where "the sun still shines in the summertime", the fine day offers a bit of hope for the future.

a fine day for a parade cheers me up with the knowledge that all is not lost, theres always something to be cheerful about. in this case, its the weather.
