They'll have you now
And again
And then again
And again
[Loved/Left] me black and blue
No more sorry

Pleasure(able)
Not alone
You're not alone
Waiting by the telephone
Whatever you do
Don't call daddy

In my hair
Everywhere
Everywhere
And everywhere
For the prints of you
Filthy daddy

Wash and mend
And wash and mend
Some kind of friend
You septic heart, your deadly hand
[Love/Left] me black and blue
No more sorry

My Opinion:When I listen to this song, I feel like I'm drifting in some dark, twisted fantasy.

General Comment:I think it's about incest with a sibling ("don't tell daddy"). Like squaresun said, this is a great song but it makes me nauseous.

General Comment:Interview with Bilinda: "Ever since Isn’t Anything I had panic attacks. Toby’s dad treated me really bad, which I’ve told about in No More Sorry. All of a sudden he wanted joint custody and I was frightened. The hypnotic therapy made things from my childhood resurface which explained why I had been living with such a man. I was a nervous wreck and I realised that a lot that happened when I was a kid shouldn’t have happened. A lot of it came out in my lyrics. A lot of discomfort."

General Comment:I think it is "filthy dirty" - think about it in a way which isn't sung "filthy!...dirty!"

If it were "filthy daddy" it wouldn't explain the "don't call daddy" - which would refer to her calling her dad on the telephone, possibly for him to get her out of the situation. She's just too scared to do it.

    It's an abusive relationship.

Although, if it is "filthy daddy" Think about the language often used by males who like to dominate "who's your daddy?". Either way, the song is what you make it.

General Comment:I think we could all agree this is the single darkest MBV song, musically and lyrically.

General Comment:It's spooky and addictive. I also think it's about abuse...

General Comment:I don't think it's saying "daddy" in the song. It sounds much more like "dirty" with an English accent.

General Comment:I take this as being from the perspective of a daughter whose father (violently?) sexually abuses her. I think the line might be "in my hair" rather than "in my head"...maybe the "fingerprints of you"=semen? I picture a girl in the shower obsessively washing herself afterwards, as well as "washing and mending" psychologically.

The most unsettling line is "loved me black and blue". Really captures the queasy nastiness of incest, if that's what it's about, where the child's emotional desire for affection is responded to with sexual lust and violence and degradation.

This is a fantastic song, but I can't listen to it much. The way I've interpreted it, it makes me genuinely unsettled. The blurry, stomach-churning music itself fits very well with the apparent subject matter. brr.
