This is the closest to this friend that I have ever been.
I hope you find it on greener ground and bluer skies.
I hope you don't think less of me if I'm cold,
I don't want to watch you go.
I'll cry until I can't see the whites of your eyes for two more years.
We'll be old enough to know better,
young enough to pretend.
This is the last of my letters...
I hope I find my home and I hope you're the first one in it.
I know it won't be the same.
I'll be there if you need anything at all you want to be.
Run around the world with me.
State your distance but it's not a million miles away.
If this is what will really make you happy..
then I say we'll be old enough to know better,
young enough to pretend.
This is the last of my letters
until I see you again.

My Opinion:Okay, to be honest, I think it has to do with the book the outsiders...
    1) The title is "Stay Gold Ponyboy", which Johnny says to Pony before he dies.
    2) This is about the album cover, and it's a track. Ponyboy does track.
    3) The gang always has a place to stay at the Curtis's, 'I hope I find my home and I hope you're the first one in it.' I kinda feel iffy about that one though...
    4) Johnny gives a letter to Ponyboy:
"Ponyboy, I asked the nurse to give you this book so you could finish it. The doctor came in a while ago but I knew anyway. I kept getting tireder and tireder. Listen, I don't mind dying now. It's worth it. It's worth saving those kids. Their lives are worth more than mine, they have more to live for. Some of their parents came by to thank me and I know it was worth it. Tell Dally it's worth it. I'm just going to miss you guys. I've been thinking about it, and that poem, that guy that wrote it, he meant you're gold when you're a kid, like green. When you're a kid, everything is new, like dawn. It's just when you get used to everything that it's day. Like the way you dig sunsets, Pony. That's gold. Keep it that way, it's a good way to be. I want you to tell Dally to look at one. He'll probably think you're crazy, but ask for me. I don't think he's ever really seen a sunset. And don't be so bugged over being a greaser. You still have a lot of time to make yourself be what you want. There's still alot of good in the world.Tell Dally. I don't think he knows. Your buddy, Johnny." It's Johnny's last letter to Pony, and he's happy that he's dying (or dead) because he saved the kids (If this is what will really make you happy..).
    5) Pony doesn't believe Johnny is dead. "I don't want to watch you go."
6)Johnny is abused by his parents and was jumped by some socs (Bob) so he wishes he could go to a place where there wasn't any greasers or socs. "I hope you find it on greener ground and bluer skies."
    7) I think the part where it says "run around the world with me", means Johnny and Pony going to Windrixville.
    8) Pony was REALLY upset about Johnny, he failed school and got into numerous fights with Darrel and Sodapop. (I'll cry until I can't see the whites of your eyes for two more years.) Again, I feel iffy about that one too....

General Comment:this is one of the most powerful and emotion-provoking songs i've ever heard...along with better half from 4 min. mile...but i COMPLETELY disagree with the comment above. the get up kids have written a bad song. in fact, they wrote an entire mediocre album--on a wire.

but what do i know. maybe i'm the only one with that opinion.

General Comment:The outsiders is by far my favorite book of all time. My teacher read it to me when i was in 6th grade and i can never get enough of it. This song is what made me a fan of the kids and the song makes so much sense to the book. Every line has something to do with it in some way.

...I'll cry until I can't see the whites of your eyes for two more years...

In the book they always say how white johnny's eyes get when he's scared. I read this book all the time especially since this year the guy who read the book to me died. So instead of just loving the book it is more like a gift to read it now. But I was just thinking the other night about this song cause I hadn't listened to it for a while. And thinking about the song and my teacher and the book made me cry. THey say for two more years in the book and that was werid cause my teacher died two years after i had him. And at his funneral they said almost the same things that are in the song. His friend said how he was always looking for an adventure and running around the would looking for better ground and skies. This song is my favorite song and I love all the meaning of it.

    General Comment:Nothing Gold Can Stay

    Nature's first green is gold,
    Her hardest hue to hold.
    Her early leaf's a flower;
    But only so an hour.
    Then leaf subsides to leaf.
    So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
    Nothing gold can stay.

General Comment:i just discovered this song. we had to read the book for school and do a final project, which was a "soundtrack". so i went to plyrics.com and searched for Ponyboy, thinking nothing would come up, but this song did. I downloaded it and used it for my Outsiders final project. Very, very good song. Fits with the book too.
