Horses in my dreams
Like waves, like the sea
They pull out of here
They pull, they are free

Rode a horse round the world
Along the tracks of a train
Broke the record, found the gold
Set myself free again

I have pulled myself clear
I have pulled myself clear
Silent, I have pulled myself clear
Silent, I have pulled myself clear

Horses in my dreams
Like waves, like the sea
On the tracks of a train
Set myself free again

I have pulled myself clear
Silent, I have pulled myself clear
Silent, I have pulled myself clear
Silent, I have pulled myself clear

    My Interpretation

This song feels to me it's about heroin. Having gotten off heroin to be more precise. It kind of makes sense if you think about it. I'm not saying PJ herself was on heroin necessarily but she's surely been around it enough to write a song from this perspective. There's an honest and decisive aspect to the song, like the narrator is acknowledging the horses still pull her at some level, evoking freedom and "to set herself free". But she knows that she needs to stay clean after she managed to "pull herself clear", likely before the heroin became an all-consuming thing in her life. The music and the lyrics combined make me think this interpretation.
