I kind of think that it's about death. That he lost someone in his family from cancer...

because he can't stand to see this person just fall away from his real life..and he's trying to get a hold of himself to realize that this person might not be here anymore..but he ends up finding something to give him more shock instead of the word cancer..

sidenote: a cancer isn't necessarily anything bad. sure, it usually means the disease, but a cancer is anything growing out of control

im surprised no one has mentioned the fact that this song sounds like it is drug related...
like emmychloe said: cancer, something growing out of control. i interpret that as a drug addiction. he talks about hidden things in the night, but he's shaking and quaking even in light...i think that means he's doping or something to hide his problems, but they just come back when he comes off the high. ? anyone else agree?

omg....i agree so much with eyes3...when i first heard and read the lyrics to this song i felt that...

Like Ben Franklin's kite...
was drug relate....like he felt so good while he was literally high....like he was flowing peacefully through the air. and then near the end of the song when he talks about lightening...it means he is starting to come off.
oh..and the cancer part....i think it relates to how fast he gets high...
but i dunno....we all have our own opnions

This song is one of the best ones! god so beautiful.... i relate but not in the "high" sense but in a sense where you feel alone and everyone is unreachable. To the point that even in the light you'll be shaking and quaking cause you'll still be alone. Geeze Something Corporate rocks!

The piano music in the song reminds me of Beethoven or Mozart... I dunno why lol it just makes me think of that... very classical sounding. It gives the song a really nice something that u couldn't get without it.

I'm such a huge soco fan, and i think maybe this song is replacing konstantine as my favorite, but it varies depending upon what mood im in. Andrew is a wonderful writer, i met him a while back at warped, and i wanted to tell him so many things, about how every word he writes hits so deeply with me and instead i just stood there going omg omg, i managed to stutter that konstantine was the most beautiful song ever but that was the best that i could do. this song is so beautiful when the violin comes in, its like its playing inside you. well with me anyway, i can feel it when it plays, it makes me want to cry everytime i hear it

At first I thought it was about a drug problem. Certainly not cancer the disease, its much more deep than that. I believe it is about drowning in depression. the Cancer meanings it's growing. Because he mentions this still being bad even now that its light. Meaning probably like if he had a broken heart but found someone new, its light but he still suffers from depression of the first love. THat is just an example, but surely its about depression.

This song is amazing! When i first heard this song to me this song is talking about how he lost someone to cancer and the sadness he feels. In the line "I'm high so high like Ben Franklin's kite" is thought by some as a drug reference but I think it means that he knows this person is off to heaven thus high so high but I could be terribly wrong who knows that's my interpretation of it
