It's another lonely evening
And another lonely town
But I ain't too young to worry
And I ain't too old to cry
When a woman gets me down
Got another empty bottle
And another empty bed
Ain't too young to admit it
And I'm not too old to lie
I'm just another empty head
That's why I'm lonely
I'm so lonely
But I know what I'm gonna do -
I'm gonna ride on
Ride on
Ride on, standing on the edge of the road
Ride on, thumb in the air
Ride on, one of these days I'm gonna
Ride on, change my evil ways
Till then I'll just keep dragging on
Broke another promise
And I broke another heart
But I ain't too young to realize
That I ain't too old to try
Try to get back to the start
And it's another red light nightmare
Another red light street
And I ain't too old to hurry
Cause I ain't too old to die
But I sure am hard to beat
But I'm lonely
Lord I'm lonely
What am I gonna do -
Ride on
Ride on, got myself a one-way ticket
Ride on
Ride on, going the wrong way
Ride on, gonna change my evil ways
Ride on, one of these days
One of these days
Ride on
Ride on
I'm gonna ride on
Ride on, looking for a truck
Ride on
Ride on, keep on riding
Riding on and on and on
And another lonely town
But I ain't too young to worry
And I ain't too old to cry
When a woman gets me down
Got another empty bottle
And another empty bed
Ain't too young to admit it
And I'm not too old to lie
I'm just another empty head
That's why I'm lonely
I'm so lonely
But I know what I'm gonna do -
I'm gonna ride on
Ride on
Ride on, standing on the edge of the road
Ride on, thumb in the air
Ride on, one of these days I'm gonna
Ride on, change my evil ways
Till then I'll just keep dragging on
Broke another promise
And I broke another heart
But I ain't too young to realize
That I ain't too old to try
Try to get back to the start
And it's another red light nightmare
Another red light street
And I ain't too old to hurry
Cause I ain't too old to die
But I sure am hard to beat
But I'm lonely
Lord I'm lonely
What am I gonna do -
Ride on
Ride on, got myself a one-way ticket
Ride on
Ride on, going the wrong way
Ride on, gonna change my evil ways
Ride on, one of these days
One of these days
Ride on
Ride on
I'm gonna ride on
Ride on, looking for a truck
Ride on
Ride on, keep on riding
Riding on and on and on

Crazy shit.
"Season ticket on a one way ride" - Highway To Hell
Both songs are studies in contrast. In Ride On Bon expresses regret and thinks he is headed the 'wrong way' and in Highway... you have Bon celebrating a reckless ride down south of whatever is good ('the wrong way'). Both songs are good for driving after you've a few drinks too many. Ride On was like an al coholic's "moment of clarity" . Driving to Highway...... always kept you on the edge, not knowing if it's going to be your last ride. Especially after you've done something wicked.
One thing has always bothered me about Ride On. however. It's the lines:
"And I ain't too old to hurry
Cause I ain't too old to die"
Seems to me that Bon misspoke the lyric, and it should've been "ain't too young to die".
But for that line, the song is so tightly constructed around the idea that he's too old to be reckless and too young to know how to stop, and that it's stopped being fun, and that time is running out. It's a song about growing up, and not being able to.
Does anybody know if he sang the lyric differently in other performances?
It's a great song
It's an inspirational song
It's ironic under the consideration of Bon Scott's death
It's a differend AC/DC to say the least
but....
demau senae is wrong
the opening lyrics are:
It's another lonely evening
IN another lonely town
not and another lonely town
not to nitpick, but you're just plain wrong
GREAT FRIKIN SONG!!
I also agree with willia05. He, as well as the band, were viewed as having no real deep meaning, just singing about shallow things. In fact, Angus Young himself said, "We don't sing about things we don't know. We sing about things we DO know - sex, booze, and rock n' roll." (I have Bonfire, which comes with a booklet full of pretty good quotes.) However, rock n' roll is a broad topic that can include a lot of things, including the hardships of the lifestyle, which is what Scott is singing of. Again agreeing with willia05, he sings it, again, in the way he knows - not poetically, so you don't have to think about all the hidden metaphors. You can slap on a pair of headphones and know what he's saying, which is in a different way than a lot of rock bands. You rock out in a different way to this song, as opposed to louder songs. This song, just as much as Highway to Hell, Dirty Deeds, Big Balls, etc. is an excellent example of AC/DC, just in a different way. It isn't loud, obnoxious, rude, and wild, which makes us love AC/DC. It's quiet, reflective, soft, and simply poetic, which makes us love them even more, eh?
