I think that this song is about wanting to be someone else or something more than you are. Maybe your situation isn't what you want it to be or you've done some things that you aren't proud of and you're hoping to be something more or be better than what you are right now.

I think the song is about a guy, who has a friend who has it all. And he wants to be like his friend. He wants to have what his friend has. I have a friend like that, and for a long time i wanted to see what it would be like if i were him for a day. But my life is my life and i try to make the best of it. So anyone who wants to be like someone else. Take a good look at yourself and ask yourself if u really want that opition

This song is about someone who doesnt like who they are wants to be someone new. Just to be someone else for one day..someone popular, cool the things that make us "liked" personally i think the only thing that should determine whether we are liked is if we have a good heart and a love for life...never deny who you are

the meaning to this song is fairly obvious. the person doesn't like who they are and wants to be someone completely different. and that's pretty much their dream...to live one day as someone else....to live one day being happy.

I love this song. I agree with most of the statements up there - a person who wishes they were somebody else, somebody that has it all and can live happily. A great song.

I heard the lead singer of 3DD say it's about following your dreams before playing the acoustic version of the song, but what the heck, it may mean a lot of other things

I have the acoustic too... and I think its about both following your dreams, and some1 who wants to be someone else. But if you want to be like someone else then work to be who you want to be.

i like the american pie edit better. but this song is incredible. i can totally relate it to my life. it's about someone who gets the meaning of their life from other peole. the song is kind of sad but ultimately hopeful. i think it says that their are still good people in this world that we can strive to be like.

agree with everyone, but it's about his friend, who wishes he was like the guy who wrote this, and it's about respecting who you are as not everyone can be like you. it says "He looks up with a little smile at me,
And he says, if i could be like that...." so i guess it's about a friend. Respect all you have, others may not be so lucky?? thats what i think it means. love it.

this song has different meanings. The first verse is about self fufillment. He feels he has tried everything to do what he wants but still hasnt gotten there. he wanted whatever so much he even did things he now regrets to get there. The second verse is about a girl who does not have what she needs. things other people take for granted. a safe house a warm bed, something to hold onto. she lives in the park i suppose. maybe shes had these things but it was only temporary, it was never really hers. she needs a family

my two cents...the first guy, he is the average guy, he moves to cali to try and be famous and what not. simple enough. the girl, she is poor, most likely living on the street. fair enough. but i think some people are missing how they are connected. i believe this song is trying to let us see how we always want more, like the first guy. nothing seems to be enough. the sad irony is that all the girl wants is what the guy already has, a place to live, family, security etc. the girl would do anything to be in the guy shoes, yet the guy is unhappy. pretty realistic if you ever talked to someone in proverty.

i think this guy is kinda pathetic cuz hes sitting there just wishes away that he could be something big and saying he would give anything just to be a star. well what is he doing about it. probably nothing. if he just sits on his ass then hes not going to get anywhere. "he has responciblities, he got to get off his ass and find the fucking dog!" jkjk but you know what i mean

i agree entirely with sumo, it's the wishfull aspirations of two people, and one is ironicaly what the other person has to begin with. i come from background of almost no hardships, so it makes me stop and think about how good i have it. LOVE the song

i reckon it's a guy who thinks he deserves better than he's got, in a way. I know that sounds selfish, and it probably wouldnt be something he would directly say. But he really, really has a yearning to have a more supportive life. I don't think its POVERTY, just not finding the certain things they want in life.
It's good for me in two ways - one way, whenever i'm a little down about life in general i can relate to it & it makes me feel better. And the second, it makes me think about what i really want in life.
Just a little piece of this dream would be fine for me.
