Lyrics for The Man Who Told Everything as interpreted by OwnPersonalDemon

The Man Who Told Everything Lyrics
Get out of bed, pick up the phone, time to tell the press
Say to myself, I cant do no one else, there's a whole world outside
I'm gonna tell it all, i'm gonna sell it all, i'm gonna sell
Get out of bed, come out and sing, blue skies ahead, the man who told everything
And I feel, like i'm losing my head, I didnt mean to stay
Lives have wrecked and i've picked up my cheque, catch a plane out of here
I'm gonna get out of here, Im gonna get out of here, i'm gonna sell

i love this song so much, although it will forever remind me of Aneesa from Real World XI: Chicago... but that's cuz they played this song when she was in the confession room, and that's the first time I heard it, and I fell in love with it!!!

A beautiful song, but I think the meaning goes a little deeper than just as a theme song for the Real World.

To me, "I'm gonna tell it all" is basically him admitting to himself and everyone else that it's over. Once you tell the press, there is no going back.

The lyrics seem to convey a sense of hope with his new situation, but it doesn't sound very upbeat or hopeful at all. His comments on singing with "blue skies ahead" seem to be laced with depressed sarcasm. What he's basically saying is, "I'll be ok, I just need to get away from here." There doesn't seem to be much hope in that, just someone searching for answers, maybe escaping from his problems, hoping that they don't follow him. Anyways, just my own, very personal take on it.

I think its from the point of view of a journalist who realises that "lives have been wrecked" from what he does. ace song though. the violins on the single version were heartbreaking.

This is one of my all-time favourite songs. It's crushing in it's fragility.

i love this song so much it got me into the doves and i love that album too, lost souls. I think this song is beautiful and the music is a masterpiece i find this song dramatic and calming in a very deep thoughtful sort of war and i nearly always play this song when i'm smoking out of my window alone thinking about me life at the present.

i feel like this song has hope emerging heartfelt out of a previous dismal dullness

I actually got to meet the band in 2002 at The Fillmore in SF. I asked them bout the song (it's my favorite of theirs)and they told me it's about a crooked politican who cashes out and flees the scene. Very deep song, just a crappy MV for it.

I'm definately more inclined to agree with Super Dave, and not just because he met Doves and asked them. I mean, it wouldn't just be someone breaking up. Why would they need to tell everyone? Nor would it be a journalist who became guilty - he wouldn't tell the PRESS. No, I always thought it as someone who leaked information to papparazi - told the press valuable secrets

I first heard this song on one tree hill like I usually hear good songs and it was really touching idk but it's a really mystical and slightly disturbing song. Idk how to explain it. It reminds me of good times and then feels like it's forshadowing bad times for some reason. It's really weird.
