Don't think me unkind
Words are hard to find
They're only cheques I've left unsigned
From the banks of chaos in my mind

And when their eloquence escapes me
Their logic ties me up and rapes me

De do do do de da da da
Is all I want to say to you
De do do do de da da da
Their innocence will pull me through
De do do do de da da da
Is all I want to say to you
De do do do de da da da
They're meaningless and all that's true

Poets priests and politicians
Have words to thank for their positions
Words that scream for your submission
And no-one's jamming their transmission

'Cause when their eloquence escapes you
Their logic ties you up and rapes you

De do do do de da da da
Is all I want to say to you
De do do do de da da da
Their innocence will pull me through
De do do do de da da da
Is all I want to say to you
De do do do de da da da
They're meaningless and all that's true

De do do do de da da da
Is all I want to say to you
De do do do de da da da
Their innocence will pull me through
De do do do de da da da
Is all I want to say to you
De do do do de da da da
They're meaningless and all that's true

General Comment:When I listed to most politicians speak, this song is how I feel. It's about how a lot of people use eloquence and emotion instead of intelligence and logic to argue a point.

General Comment:Got to be about propaganda for me.
I think it means words are used by people in power to manipulate others (Poets, priests, and politicians, Have words to thank for their positions, Words that scream for your submission), so I think he's saying here I'd rather talk nonsense to you than abuse my position of power.
I think he's saying beware of the way people twist words to make you think what they want you to, and also I think he's saying make your own mind up about things, don't be influenced by words, sometimes people in power can dress things up to sound meaningful, when in fact they are saying nothing more meaningful than 'de do do do, de da da da'!

Like this song a lot; I love how it sounds so meaningless itself until you really look into it. I suppose in that way it's contradicting itself really since he is using words to convince you of his point of view! - maybe Sting has an excellent sense of irony.

General Comment:The song's a big metaphor....Sting is a lyrical "poet," It's the power of persuasion- meaningless or true.

General Comment:Words means nothing sometimes when you are considering the source of them (a liar, manipulator, someone with an ulterior motive). He is saying the poets, priests and politicians of the world use words to do these things and move the masses to their will. The singer doesn't want to use words in this way, he rather speak meaningless babble than to be insincere. "Their innocence will pull me through" In being inarticulate he is innocent unlike the persons he mentioned in power that have an agenda. It is intrinsically a song about corruption.

General Comment:He's fallen in love and get's tongue-tied around her.

He compares his situation to leaders and poets, who skilfully use their words to get fame and power.

General Comment:I've actually used similar words when I first met a guy. I didn't have anything to say, so I talked baby talk. Its rather a common idea of a song to me. When you can't think of anything to say, just say de do do do da da da

General Comment:This is Sting at his best: deceiving you into believing that the song means something else. Judging by its title, "De do do do" could be regarded as a brainlessly naif track when in facts the lyrics are rather deep and yet so simple. It's a song about words and their power to trick and manipulate. Sometimes it's better to just hum a meaningless tune, it's the message. And the music is timeless and never fails to make me jump in my chair.

General Comment:Don't always believe what the writer says about the song. He could be using a muse and doesn't want the muse to know he used her.

General Comment:What do you do when you fall in love at first sight and that person says something and you dont answer. Then they say "Don't you talk?" so then you decide to talk baby talk just to get through the situation without looking stupid. So you really end up looking cute!
