And the wise man said "I don't want to hear your voice"
And the thin man said "I don't want to hear your voice"
And they're cursing me
And they won't let me be
There's nothing to say
And there's nothing to do
Stop whispering, start shouting
Stop whispering, start shouting

And my mother say "We don't't love you son some more"
And the buildings say "Let me spit on your face some more"
And the feeling is
That there's something wrong
'Cause I can't find the words
And I can't find the song

Stop whispering, start shouting
Stop whispering, start shouting

Dear Sir, "I have a complaint"
Dear Sir, "I have a complaint"
"Can't remember what it is
"That's why I'm here"

Stop whispering,
Stop whispering,
Stop whispering,
Stop whispering
Start shouting

General Comment:He whispers in the verse and shouts in the chorus.

Agreeing with above posters, Pixies-influenced. Nirvana used the same concept for some of their big songs.

General Comment:This song was actually written in dedication to Radiohead's idols The Pixies. When the Pixies first started, no one liked the new sound, which is described by the verses. It was a firm belief of their's, however, to play the music they played and to lead the indie movement of that time with screams mixed into laid-back surf sounds. Regardless, the song was written through the Pixies' inspiration.

General Comment:The US Version of this song is a bit better but the Album version aint bad either, tied with Creep for best song on Pablo Honey.

Download the video for this song. It's the most gorgeous thing I've ever seen. It's also the U.S. version....

General Comment:hmm think I need some elaboration on this 'just speak your mind theory'. i mean i can see it in the chorus but in lines such as 'it doesnt matter anyway' it sounds like you can say whatever the hell you want and noone cares. Maybe thats it.

I kinda thought of it as rejection - from the wise man, the thin man, his mum, the complaint and the world. I personally thought this was criticism aimed at the band. And because of this his inspiration dries up 'I can't find the song'. Basically, he has no encouragement.

But then my interpretation doesnt leave the chorus clear as to what it means. Maybe, he's fed up of them whispering behind his back and he wants them to say it to his face.
Or maybe its aimed at himself. He's encouraging himself to get out there and say what he has to say to the world.

General Comment:'S about speaking your mind. Something we should all do in real life as well as simply on this site.

General Comment:Has anyone else got the U.S. version of this song as well? It's worth tracking down if you really like the song. (Not quite as good as the Pablo version but still very cool)
