And the wise man said "I don't want to hear your voice"
And the thin man said "I don't want to hear your voice"
And they're cursing me
And they won't let me be
There's nothing to say
And there's nothing to do
Stop whispering, start shouting
Stop whispering, start shouting

And my mother say we don't love you, son some more
And the buildings say let me spit on your face some more
And the feeling is
That there's something wrong
'Cause I can't find the words
And I can't find the song

Stop whispering, start shouting
Stop whispering, start shouting

Dear sir, I have a complaint
Dear sir, I have a complaint
Can't remember what it is
Doesn't matter anyway
Doesn't matter anyway

Stop whispering, stop whispering
Stop whispering, stop whispering, start shouting

I love this song. ITs like the phrase "stop whispering, start shouting" just says - stop being an outsider and worrying about things, start screaming out how much you love the world. Peace.

hmm think I need some elaboration on this 'just speak your mind theory'. i mean i can see it in the chorus but in lines such as 'it doesnt matter anyway' it sounds like you can say whatever the hell you want and noone cares. Maybe thats it.

I kinda thought of it as rejection - from the wise man, the thin man, his mum, the complaint and the world. I personally thought this was criticism aimed at the band. And because of this his inspiration dries up 'I can't find the song'. Basically, he has no encouragement.

But then my interpretation doesnt leave the chorus clear as to what it means. Maybe, he's fed up of them whispering behind his back and he wants them to say it to his face. Or maybe its aimed at himself. He's encouraging himself to get out there and say what he has to say to the world.

spectacular. this puts me in such a great mood, like nothing can stop me from saying what i need to. its about not trying to find someone else's words to capture your own-just get out and say it man. the best lines are "And the feeling is That there's something wrong Cuz I can't find the words And I can't find the song" *it just says so much to me directly, i completely love it.

    Song Meaning

This song is a tribute to the band The Pixies, who were a big influence on Radiohead. The Pixies were known for quiet verses leading into an explosive chorus. This song, in which Thom Yorke vented his ambivalent feelings towards authority figures, was created when Radiohead were still known as Early On A Friday. Source: songfacts.com

"And they're cursing me And they won't let me be There's nothing to say And there's nothing to do " and now they've blacklisted you, there's no escape from how they've absolutely fucked your life, and you try to rebel, to stop this insanity, but you can't do anything in the long run. Its like 1984, it reminds me of, how the revolution seems so close, but then, it slips through the cracks, and the shouting doesn't make a difference when no one can hear you.

Has anyone else got the U.S. version of this song as well? It's worth tracking down if you really like the song. (Not quite as good as the Pablo version but still very cool)

Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
