this song is pretty much about talking about a girl, that justs wants to do whatever she wants and to be free.. she thinks if she doesnt get the chance to do things then she never will in the future.

I definitely agree with the two people above... I think she could very well also feel alone and like she isn't going to get anywhere, or at least that's how people see her... maybe by straw dog they mean something fake? It doesn't really fit with the song, but it's my best guess..

if there was a straw dog out in the street.. i'd be scared.... and i would not be thinking "hey look.. there's chemicals in the clouds" and when they're calling al the police to catch them smoking pot they won't get caugh cuz they fly away..
for some reason i think that the chorus is about drugs...

I just bought this CD today, and was flipping randomly through the songs. This one started playing, and all of a sudden they said "Jessica..." and I almost crashed my car I was so excited! My name is in a song! And a good song at that! Haha sorry I was a bit thrilled... I am not exactly sure what it means, but if someone could explain it (especially the Straw Dog part), I'd be really grateful!

i think the straw dog is soposed be a metaphor for her. Its like saying the her life is going nowhere and sooner or later shes gonna die (the straw dog will get hit by a car) but she isnt really doing anything about.. Cuz she goes on to say stuff about the clouds.

i love the beginning of this song, like the guitar parts. It's freakin killer! Yea, i like this song a lot. i too was wondering what a straw dog was. but after reading all your guys' comments i kinda get it now. This song makes me happy too.
