[fallen angel head crashes dead out of control lost
memories staircase twists darker rooms lit with left out
toys after playing men changes toys into tools twisted
playthings on the staircase fools whose weapons
represents the killing game
who taught the killing game
who taught the killing game
awaken eyes sewn wearing glasses dripping tapping at the
temple door locked inside scream inner scraping tooth and
nail nowhere to go quiet retraces forcing
light tears then pretend nothing blinds minds closed in
sanctuary closed in sanctuary padded walls not quiet
storms fury burned out killing time
who taught the killing game
time's taught the killing game herself
no I taught the killing game first
passing words distant pain remember trains of thought
collide no one view window pushing faces through sharp
cold glass poke bloody holes exposed
I taught the killing game first
I taught the killing game first
till at last you regret tortured animals wake up time
beckons death upon myself eyes travelled harden strange
no stronger feeling tempting motion slows to a
crawl places his weaponry and it's a trap let go the
springs snap shut gazes show sharper teeth giving in to
the jaws of death
I taught the killing game
I taught the killing game first
I taught I taught I taught the game first...first...first...

General Comment:the killing game is what you do when your lifestyle gets to a point that you're a totally freaked out shut-in, hiding from your freaking window blinds completely paranoid, feeling all the danger around you coming from your own deeds, your environment, all your social contacts, and even the sidewalk traffic and its ambient noise blaring death threats at you through the walls....
it is desperately trying to assert to yourself and your demons that you're holding the 4 walls hostage and not the reverse.
there was a point in time where people would pop in like the Candyman to see if i was dead yet and then stir me up with more paranoia and other dirtier, more toxic "killing tools" for me to play with and then they'd come back at some other point to agitate me and observe me slowly killing myself very much to their entertainment.
totally like demonic agents sent from some other dimension to facilitate and sustain my suffering as they seemed to feed off it for their own nourishment.

General Comment:For the record.. and this is DIRECTLY from cEVIN Key during an interview back around the release of Last Rights. and that is..."Ogre NEVER rehearses music with Dwayne and i (cEVIN Key), We basicly write out the album, perform the music and leave it with him. And he "Improvises" lyrics with David Oglivie (i think thats how his last name is spelled.) But yea...to say all that and have like 10 plus albums out, Rehersel or NO rehersel, they made some damn good music over all these years, considering cEVIN's rant.

General Comment:This probably wasn't what he wasn't intending it to mean, but i always thought that :
    "Who taught the killing game?
TIME's taught the killing game, herself
No... I taught the killing game first."

I sort of thought that in these lines he meant that our actions bring on consequences and affect our future. We can't put the blame on time or anybody else, because we decide our own fate.

General Comment:well yeah.. its my favorite skinny song too.. i got this album when it came out way back in the day (or night) and after all this time all i can say is this song ages like a fine wine (not that i drink fine wine/// id much prefer to poke bloody holes) as for interpretation: we can only speculate his intended meaning and for this ive always felt it was about residual human nature, the killer instinct inside everyone that shines through in some and is dulled in others. were not as sophisticated as we would like to think and our true nature is never far away, although with an intravenous needle stuck in our arm society drugs us to pretend were something were not from birth... .... .... .. ..

but hey... what the fuuuk would i know///////\\\\\\\

General Comment:the above comment is rather interesting..it holds no ground..but none the less is interesting..I have yet to meet an artist that would make his work about absolutely nothing..as that would be completely contradictory as to what art is about...but then again you contradict yourself by stateing that it is a person projecting his thoughts...wich IS art....thats rather odd..maybe that was your attempt at what you stated in the first line. to be more clever then i....i believe you failed...nice try tho..keep your chin up ...you'll get there some day

General Comment:"^^^ This person is an idiot."

"very well put..not just the meaning but the fact that other person is infact a complete dumbass.. "

Gee I wish I could be all clever like you guys. Impressive stuff. Unless the poster your insulting is the same age I was when I got into Skinny Puppy, around 14, in which case his analysis is probably not that dumb at all.

Maybe also consider that Skinny Puppy deliberately write their lyrics so as to be virtually impenetrable and... maybe there's a reason for that ? Like *maybe* since their songs deal with a sick world and authority gone wrong, it would be hippocritical to be telling people what to think on their albums. We can only thank our lucky stars that you two aren't similarly constrained.

I would also speculate that like many artists, Skinny Puppy intend the "meaning" of their work to be determined by the viewer/listener as an active participant in the creative process. You could also imagine their lyrics to be a kind of audible Inkblot test of personality - a person projects something of himself and his assumptions about the world into his interpretation.

I actually happen to agree with the interpretation you give but its not exactly unknown for a song or poem to be about more than one thing.

General Comment:Killing Game = Ogre's near fatal life while shooting up &$#@

Check out interview archieves for the meanings to alot of SP songs... seems alot of the lyrics are either views on social issues or ogres personal life.

Although people should always find personal meanings to songs...... some of the ones people come up with for Skinny Puppy are so down right bizarre it scares me. People link them to free mansonry and serial killers it gets crazy
