The handshake
Seals the contract
From the contract
There's no turning back
The turning point
Of a career
In Korea, being insincere
The holiday
Was fun packed
The contract
Still intact
The grabbing hands
Grab all they can
All for themselves
After all
It's a competitive world
Everything counts in large amounts
The graph
On the wall
Tells the story
Of it all
Picture it now
See just how
The lies and deceit
Gained a little more power
Confidence
Taken in
By a sun tan
And a grin
The grabbing hands
Grab all they can
All for themselves
After all
It's a competitive world
Everything counts in large amounts
The grabbing hands
Grab all they can
Everything counts in large amounts

Song Meaning:This song is simply about corporate greed and corruption. A popular theme in the money grabbing 1980s.

General Comment:I think it's about their own relationship with the music industry. It taps into that inner bleakness and sense of guilt that pervades so much of PM's music.

Song Meaning:You people are reading too much into it. I have read many places that this song was their summary of the recording industry, exemplifying all the greed, insincerity and unwarranted self-reverence major labels have for themselves. The Korea line was simply because they were wined and dined especially well (c/o the record company of course) while a world tour of theirs had a few stops over there.

General Comment:Its about position and power. How ruthless business is and its every man for himself. Basically this song speaks of greed, power, indulgance, stepping over people to get to the top

General Comment:I always thought it was "a career, in career", the second as in "full speed"

General Comment:They don't seem very anti-capitalism though. It's more of an informative song if you want to take it's word for it.

General Comment:I actually thought this was all about invading other countries, after joining the military.

Much like "You're in the army Now", by Status Quo, and a song by madness called..
    "Uncle sam"?

General Comment:Of course about capitalism and the way it operates. I read somewhere the band had recently returned from a visit to Thailand and witnessed the widespread poverty there. This in turn influenced Martin to pen a song. And the reference to Korea is about how South Korea became a bulwark for the US in its campaign against communism during the Korean War, ultimately converting to virtual laissez faire capitalism.
