I haven't read all of these comments but my opinion is that it's about how pissed he is at the car in front of him for not moving at the green light. I hate those people to...light turns green and they don't move...just sit there.Could be symbolic, but I'd rather just take it as literal...sitting behind a bastard who doesn't know it's the pedal on the right....

I dig the lounge version. I was actually originally enthralled with the tune of the lounge version until I payed attention to the lyrics. They're so freakin nice. I find (and I'm probably wrong) that Brandon's lyrics tend to speak his mind very forceful, yet polished. (see also the person he's fed up with in "Blood on the ground")

to me this song is about how everyone procrastinates. people seem to be afraid of doing things because they dont know if its the right thing to do, so they end up doing nothing and they're lives pass them by, hence "move now, or lose it all" it means to make something great with your life and pass it on to the next generation "the time has come for hand-me-downs" and somebody earlier wrote only potheads would think its about a street light or some shit, although u made an intresting comment about the myan stuff, i think u should watch what u say, im not a pot head, and ive always thought of this song as meaning a street light, after all, half of the fucking song has to do with driving, and i dont mean that the song is simply about driving, but, i think the certain shade of green is definatly refering to a street light.

i get a kick out of most incubus lyrics myself, i think the waiting around till 2012 ad is a reference to the end date on the maya callendar but i could be wrong, are you gonna wait around till "the end of the world", or get up and do something with your life. I like the traffic reference made by BeanBoy, I disagree though, i think its an analogy, probably had the song half written when he got stuck behind some old fart in his car, and found a new way to express the lyrics lol.

wow. you are all sooo wrong. Read the book Prometheus Rising by Robert Anton Wilson (one of Boyd's favorite authors) and you will understand this song and well, just abou tall of SCIENCE. The song deals with the eight neurological circuits and why we haven't all advanced beyond the fourth due to the reality tunnels passed down by parents and other figures. He is asking if we are going to wait till the end of time (Myans say 2012 = end of time, green=jade) When the end days are near, The sky will turn a certain shade of green due to the negativity and pollution of the world. (According to Myans) Also, when Brandon warns about procrastination, he thinks that it is not a good Idea to wait for the end days to come around to evolve and utilize the other circuits. Prime example: youve been raised in limitation but that glove never fit quite right the time hasd passed for hand me downs choose new please evolve take flight. Read the book and you'll get it. Brandon is very spiritual and intellegent as displayed in his music.

I always thought a "certain shade of green" refers to when the traffic light turns green and the car ahead of you won't move, and you just shout "Hey buddy, the light's not getting any greener." In other words, it means quite procrastinating and do it.

Green has meant go for ages. Basically it's like, yeah, the traffic light and the lights been green all along but this persn still hasn't moved. So he's asking her, are you waiting for it to turn a different shade of green or something? Jeez, you're making me grow gray watching you procrastinate. Go already. Life's out there, it's time to go out and do everything before the light turns red.

ok, is it possible for incubus to be any more genius? i mean here everyone is thinking its about marijuana and street lights and hell it all makes sense..and all this mayan stuff and how the sky will turn green on 2012 and all that im sure thats the basis of the song. did it ever cross any of your minds that yes it IS about the mayan stuff, but brandon is such a damn good song writer that you can take it in more than one context...i mean that is what quality song writing is people when you can take something like the mayans and get the fact out of that and turn it into this awesome song that can have so many different meanings...no one beats incubus

And of course britt erin, as with any good poetry, they are meant to be thought of psychologically and take on different meanings...Like reading old poetry and discussing it, no one's really right, but there are tons of people with opinions.

But what's weird to me though, is how he can make a song as deep as this, and then make "Smokin' That Herb Again". -_- Or maybe smoking marijuana is a reference to the neurological mayan jade uber luke skywalker's lightsaber and the 10th planet in our solar system which has 3 moons, three diverged from the latin tora, which in archaeic English means "The Genesis", in which case, marijuana is the most meaninful substance in all existance.
