Get home from work and you're still standing in your dressing gown
Well what am I to do?
I know all the things around your head and what they do to you.
What are we coming to?
What are we gonna do?
Blame it on the black star
Blame it on the falling sky
Blame it on the satellite that beams me home.
The troubled words of a troubled mind I try to understand
What is eating you.
I try to stay awake but its 58hrs since that I last slept with you.
What are we coming to?
I just don't know anymore.
I get on the train and I just stand about now that I don't think of you.
I keep falling over I keep passing out
When I see a face like you.
What am I coming to?
I'm gonna melt down.

My Opinion:I see the satellite as maybe a precursor to OK Computer

he's blaming it on the stars or everything going on in the world or his modern lifestyle rather than taking responsibility

General Comment:this might just be my crazy theory, but does this kind of remind anybody else of Romeo and Juliet? I know exit music was influenced by it, but the whole "blame it on the black star" thing kind of reminds me of the "star crossing" in Romeo and Juliet. Only this time, its not about Romeo and Juliet, doomed to death, its about a couple that is doomed to be dysfunctional, they love each other, but are prevented from happiness from the dysfunctional nature of their relationship

My Interpretation:A few songs I can really relate to regarding someone in my life whom has been very difficult to live with over the years. "Black Star" is one of them. Actually brought me to tears first time I heard it. I think it is about mental illness in someone close to you and the inability to deal with it anymore. At least that's what is says to me. "She Cries Your Name" by Beth Orton and "One" by U2 say similar things.

General Comment:I think this is a pretty straight forward song...
The girl has a mental illness probably depression. He loves her a lot. But is exhausted. And lost.

    I agree I will listen to the whole song over and over and over again for this;

I get on the train and just stand about now that I don't think of you.
I keep falling over I keep passing out when I see a face like you.

Who hasn't felt this. Takes me back to a few train trips I had a few years back. The train is always the place it falls apart. When you're elsewhere you are busy but there's just something about the train..

General Comment:God... girls need to understand EVERY SONG IS NOT ABOUT A FREAKING RELATIONSHIP!!! "black star" is a nickname for LSD or acid. For the most part, people will assume that if somebody does drugs, then all their life problems can be traced back to that, even though most of the problems would have probably arisen anyways.

General Comment:I've read a lot of the posts here but not all
so forgive me if somebody else has already had this idea.

I understand the failing relationship interpretation and it probably
fits better. However, for me personally i really relate to it as the
narrator talking solely about his/her self.

The first verse is the narrator speaking to their own conscience or
their own mental state. Some people who suffer from
depression can 'mask' symptoms; go to work function, smile, put on a
'brave face'. But to the sufferer or narrator here, it's as if they haven't left
the house. They're still stuck at 7am making the breakfast.

"blame it on the black star" - the depression
"blame it on the falling sky" - this sounds melodramatic in a way to me,
they're saying blame it on everything that's wrong and unjust in the world
    but don't blame me.
"blame it on the satellite" - this almost sounds sarcastic, "that beams me
home", it's as if the narrator is challenging the stigma attached to mental
health problems with that; blame it on me, I'm mad remember?

The next verse seems the narrator is struggling with his thoughts, why
do they feel like this? "it's 58 hours since I last slept with you"; the
last time he was at peace somewhat; lack of sleep another classic
    symptom of depression.

Finally the last verse seems the narrator has succumb to he illness. The
person they don't think of anymore being their former self. The "face like you"
are all the people the narrator sees that remind them of how they used to be.
They'll never be that person again and they can't deal with it.

"I'm gonna melt down...this is killing me."

apologies for the length of the post, just wanted to put it out there and see what
    people thought.

General Comment:I always interpreted it as his girlfriend is depressed and the last verse makes it seem as though maybe she has committed suicide. A beautiful song.
