Who cares for the life we earned?
Someone sold all the truth you yearned,
Remember when you used to shine
And had no fear or sense of time
When it creeps up on you

You can cry now there¹s nothing to feel
No one¹s noticed our loneliness
Remember when you should have teased
And made us scream eternal time

I believed that you¹d always be here
And once you promised a life with no fear
Please don¹t break my ideals
And say what thing was always real
I was
Take me back again

General Comment:I'm basing my opinion off of the acoustic one so BEAR WITH ME.
Anyway, I think it's about looking back to when you were younger and everything was easier. "Remember when we used to shine." Sort of like the shine that life had before everything got screwed up as you got older and it all changed. And now wishing that you could go back to when things were simple when all that mattered was what was happening in the next 5 minutes and not in forever. But now it's like everyone is trying to make them something their not and they don't know what to do so they want to go back.

If you can make sense of that than I applaud you.

General Comment:I think this song is about religion in general. Like, in the beginning it was all shiny and great but over time religion and even the gods that people look up to left them behind and he wishes that he could have faith again.
    Just my opinion.

General Comment:Its a song about Death.

when it creeps up on you

Meaning When Death Creeps up on you. Death can happen at any momment.

i believed that you'd always be here
and once you promised a life with no fear

Its about someone who loves someone and they die.

General Comment:I think its about Bellamy's feelings after his parents divorced. Its evident in the last verse there, where he's basically singing about how angry and upset he was over the break up and how it actually hurts him.

General Comment:Matt seems to have a few songs about people losing faith in him and pouring scorn on him making it in a band (muscle museum for one 'to prove I've made a big mistake'). If you know anything about Matt's early life his mum and dad split when he was a teenager so probably their supportative nature became more depressive and so they would no longer 'shine' and now he's begging 'please don't break my ideas'. These lines are the saddest and really show someone trying to maintain hope when people around him are being so negative:

i believed that you'd always be here
and once you promised a life with no fear
    please don't break my ideas

Luckily for us whoever it was doubting him they didn't succeed in breaking his ideas so he could share them with us!!!!

General Comment:I don't know if anyone would agree with me on this one... but I sort of think that the Acoustic version of Shine is slightly different on the lyrics.

    "Shine (Acoustic) by Muse

Who cares for the life we've earned?
Someone sold all the truth you yearn.

Remember when you used to shine
and had no fear or sense of time?
When it creeps up on you...

You can't cry now. Theres nothing to feel.
And no one's noticed our loneliness.
Remember when you used to tease?
It made us scream eternal joy.

I believe that you'll always be here,
cause once you promised a life with no fear.
    Please don't break my ideals.
And say what's fake was always real.
    Hope was the one.
    Now I'm gone.
    Take me back again."

    ...but I CAN be wrong.

    =P

General Comment:Anyone seen American Beauty? To me, it sounds like what Spacey's character would say (very poetically) to Annette Benning's character.
Either that or I'm insanely high and need to cut back on the hippy dessert.

General Comment:i agree with the whole concept that this song is about growing up, but i think the "shine" in the song is a person who he was once close to, or possibly a "God" he used to possibly at one time believe in. i don't think the song is about breaking up with someone.

as in a "God" figure i mean the ending verse. "I believe that you'd always be here, promised a life with no fear" is just a sign of growing up, and wondering where that godly figure is in your life as you get older, because you can't go back to a time when it was good.

General Comment:I always felt it was about growing up with people from childhood. It sort of makes me sad, because i'm in a transitional stage right now, where i don't see the people i've grown up with since 5 years of age everyday anymore, this song makes me think about that. makes me nostalgic for all the times we spent, when we "had no fear, or sense of time."
