Lyrics for Underwear as interpreted by typo

Underwear Lyrics
Why don't you shut the door
And close the curtains?
Cos you're not going anywhere
He's coming up the stairs
and in a moment he'll want to see your underwear

You couldn't stop it now
There's no way to get out
He's standing far too near
How the hell did you get here
Semi-naked in somebody else's room?
I'd give my whole life to see it
Just you
Stood there
Only in your underwear

If fashion is your trade
Then when you're naked
I guess you must be unemployed, yeah
Cos once it's underway
There's no escaping
The fact that you're a girl and he's a boy

You couldn't stop it now
There's no way to get out
He's standing far too near
How the hell did you get here
Semi-naked in somebody else's room?
I'd give my whole life to see it
Just you
Stood there
Only in your underwear

If you close your eyes and just remember
That this is what you wanted last night
So why is it so hard for you to touch him?
For you to go and give yourself to him?

I couldn't stop it now
There's no way to get out
He's standing far too near
How the hell did you get here
Semi-naked in somebody else's room?
I'd give my whole life to see it
Just you
Stood there
Only in your underwear

Do, do do do do...
Oh yeah
I want to see you
Want to see you only in your underwear

I'de say this song is about the fickle indecisiveness of females and yet how guys really have no choice but to be attracted to them. Damned hormones.

About a girl who enjoys the act of getting off with a bloke one night and likes the idea of going home with him afterwards. But, once they're away from the club or whatever, and she's standing in that bedroom with him, knowing what's expected, it suddenly doesn't seem like such a tempting prospect. The task has been achieved, she's being offered what she was after, but now she's thinking "actually, now it's come down to it, I can't really be bothered."

Itīs about a girl who suddnely gets really scared about what she knows she is supposed to do (get naked). The narrator of this story is not the guy who is about to "be" with the girl, he is in a semigod position, but he also expresses his opinion, though by some reason he knows the girl is far out of his reach.

I have been the girl in the song.

It's about being slightly too drunk to make a rational decision, and then realising rather too late that you really don't want to go through with this. Standing semi - conscious in his room thinking of how the **** you're going to get out of this one, cause you're really not ready, but being too drunk to do anything rational and sitting down on the bed in a blind panic.

One of my fave trakcs from Different Class. The part about giving his own life to see her throws one off a bit, but it seems most comments kind of paint these lyrics appropriately.

This song, to me, seems to be about a girl who got drunk and picked up a guy and slept with him. She then wakes up in the morning and thinks 'What the Hell have I done?' and knows he'll probably want to have sex again, but is finding it hard to touch him even. The speaker in the song is mocking her and saying he'd love to see her in this mess.

i think its about a girl, who has told her male friend about a siuation she was in with a man she only just met - how she was really attracted to him 'last night' but couldnt bring herself to look at him in the morning..

her friend is deeply inlove with her, and want to look afterher, but feels she will never see him in that way. he thinks this is how she will learn? he says how 'i couldnt stop it now'

maybe itas about a guy who has finaly slep with someone he wanted - but knows that she regrets it in the morning. but he doesnt care cos he'd do anything to see her

I dont think the emphisis is so much on the girl as himself. He cannot understand why she would waste her time with some looser when he has so much desire for her. Lots of teenage longing in this song, I wonder if Jarvis is writing about the same girl as in Babies.

While the situation described by the other posts are accurate about the girl. I personaly see this song in a more personal light. The narrator is a bloke who is in love with the girl, but it has been largely unrequited. He believes that she should be with him, and this is just my personal interpretation(meaning it is related to my life), that she is an innocent sweet girl, possibly a virgin and she gets off with a bloke. While he watches and knows whats going to happen to her, it is torture that she is sleeping, or going to sleep with a bloke, when he would love to be with her. This to me, hits home hard, as i dated a girl and this happend to her, when she should of lost her virginity to me not some random bloke on a drunken night out

She was not drunk, this wasnīt a mistake, she planned this, she tought she wanted to do this "And just remember that this is what you wanted last night". She tought she was prepared but she is not, that is less idiotic than a drunken mistake.

Hmm, yeah maybe she did plan it, or want to sleep with this guy, who was in my personal experience a bastard (but attractive in that way?), and it was a misteak that she wasn't ready or he wasn't accomedating for her first time

I've always thought that this song describes the feelings a girl faces before losing her virginity. The narrator is just expressing the feelings she has but is not an actual character in the situation. For this girl, she knows that she has to lose her virginity eventually, and even if she doesn't feel ready, she feels pressured to give herself to someone. Hence the line, "So why is it so hard for you to touch him/For you to go and give yourself to him (or Jesus)." I noticed the lyrics given here stop at "give yourself to him" when the version I have of this song says "give yourself to him or Jesus," which backs up my interpretation of the song.
This song marks the progression of the relationship this girl has with a guy from something innocent to something sexual. They may have been dating, and she knows that eventually they will have to have sex. When they start taking off their clothes is when she sees their differences and when everything becomes real: "Cos once it's underway/There's no escaping/The fact that you're a girl and he's a boy."
As things go further and further, she wants to stop it but knows she can't because they've gone too far. She then begins to question how she got there in the first place. She feels this conflict of whether she really wants this to happen or if she just feels as if she should have sex with him (or anyone). She tries to convince herself that it's what she wanted ("If you close your eyes and just remember/That this is what you wanted last night"), but it does nothing to get rid of the bad feelings she still has when she wakes up.
This is how I've always interpreted the song. I think it's amazing that we can all listen to the same words and music and find such different meanings.

A few weeks ago I realized for the first time that this is probably about a the narrator looking at a lingerie catalogue and then kind of letting his imagination run wild. Especially with the lines
"If fashion is your trade
Then when you're naked
I guess you must be unemployed"

I think the idea is that it seems such a bizzare situation to him, and attracts a kind of morbid curiosity in him - he imagines it getting worse than it's likely to, and really wants to see it...

I've been listening to this song non stop lately, as I had a bad experience which is entirely summed up in these lyrics. Basically I was really drunk and ended up in a bedroom with this boy, who I thought I liked until we got there. I suddenly decided I didn't want to be there any more but it was too late so I ended up doing things that I regret. The next morning I felt so grubby and ashamed of what I'd done. That is what this song is about.

I don't think the line about giving his life is meant to be taken too literally. I reckon it's just from the outside male's perspective (who I think is the girls best friend) and it's used to emphasise just how much he desires her. I think Rose4Richey has it covered.
