Lyrics for Bring On The Dancing Horses as interpreted by typo

Bring On The Dancing Horses Lyrics
jimmy brown
made of stone
charlie clown
no way home
bringing on the dancing horses
headless and all alone

shiver and say the words
of every lie you've heard

first i'm gonna make it
then i'm gonna break it
till it falls apart
hating all the faking
and shaking while i'm breaking
your brittle heart

billy stands
all alone
sinking sand
skin and bone
bring on the dancing horses
wherever they may roam

shiver and say the words
of every lie you've heard

first i'm gonna make it
then i'm gonna break it
till it falls apart
hating all the faking
and shaking while i'm breaking
your brittle heart

brittle heart
brittle heart
and my little heart
goes

jimmy brown
made of stone
charlie clown
no way home

first i'm gonna make it
then i'm gonna break it
till it falls apart
hating all the faking
and shaking while i'm breaking
your brittle heart

bring on the new messiah
wherever he may roam...

brittle heart
brittle heart
and our little hearts
go

Such a beautiful song.
Such a juxtaposition of images such as "Frist I'm gonna make it, then I'm gonna break it til it falls apart..." with the somewhat romantic musical strains, make this song a mover and a shaker.

I don't think it is about drug abuse, just about disillusionment in love. I love how Ian's voice sounds so painful while he pronounces the words "hating all the faking, shaking while I'm breaking your brittle heart"

I have to admit I have no clue what this song is about either, very abstract lyrics. Although it does appear to be about some sort of broken heart thats about all I can make out.

Such a beautiful song, it creates this "swimming" effect it almost makes you dizzy. Echo and the Bunnymen were great at making dark atmospheric pop songs, and like all their songs this one has a really dark undertone to it.

I can't really explain why, but I feel like this song is about a guy who's cheating on his girlfriend/wife, and I think he feels bad about it. I have no idea what the title means though.

I think that the song is about an average man struggling to express his emotions because of the fear that they are not enough. I think it relates to a relationship which has run its course but neither party can bring themselves to admit their failure. The lines:
'shiver and say the words
of every lie you've heard'
are about the point of self realisation when the 'I love you's' become meaningless to both hear and to say.
I think that the phrase 'Bring on the dancing horses is simalar to saying ' it's not over till the fat lady sings' the horses signify the end like the four horsemen of the apocolypse they appear when the relationship has run its course. This is only one interpretation. I think this song has so many levels it would be impossible to explore them all. Is it about rebellion against a religious upbringing who knows?

yeah, i agree with jackflashjess. that's actually kind of what i had in mind. i mean that the guy is in a failing relationship, and he's in denial about it because he feels guilty. i think "i'm breaking your brittle heart" could mean he's also cheating.

Good interpretation jackflashjess, makes a lot of sense, almost feels like that has to be what the song is about now that I've read it and listened to the song.

compare this to the song Jimmy Brown, an earlier incarnation and you can see how they play with lyricism and meaning. Like other E&TB songs it's more impressionistic imagery (old timey stage works and passion plays) than straightforward narrative (though they shared the same era as the new romantics, they had more literary pretensions than the dance floor hit of the day, hence the doors influence: descant out with your cock out). If you watch the video, it kind of feels like a dumb show--the last refrain (bring on the new messiah...) the band stops lip syncing, staring mutely at the camera. So the song maybe is a sweepingly agnostic take on the dubious power and salvation of love, an anti-pop song, an un-love song: the stoic and the clown as poor players, and the bearers of passion, the dancing horses, are headless, have no free will of their own beyond what they've been trained, like the legions singing the same sentimentalists' lies, the tired aphorisms, the sleepy sonnets. And all is ephemeral skin and bone, even Jimmy Brown the stoic, our abject and makeshift constructions, our grandiose plays at love but poor gestures on an empty stage, who can save us from ourselves, bring on the new messiah, wherever he is, if he is. But then ironically or as if in counterpoint the music seems to deny such an existentialist limbo.

I feel like this song is about him wanting to end a relationship with this girl but shes in denial about their incompatability and he is too afriad to hurt her because shes emotionally weak ("First Im gonna make it, then im gonna break it till it falls apart. Hating all the fakin and shaking while im breakin your brittle heart"). So he continues to lie and say he loves her ("Shiver and say the words of every lie you've heard") even though he wants to be free from her and her baggage. To me the "dancing horses" symbolize his wanting to be free from her but "headless and alone" reminds him that he cant just pick up and leave.

Okay, if anyone actually bothered to read about the band themselves, they would have easily discovered that this song - well, the title at least- is from a Russian saying that means when everything is going to complete shit, you need to bring out that last little trick from up your sleeve. SOMEONE PLEASE DO SOME RESEARCH??
