We've been on the run
Driving in the sun
Looking out for number one
California here we come
Right back where we started from

Hustlers grab your guns
Your shadow weighs a ton
Driving down the 101
California here we come
Right back where we started from

California!
Here we come!

On the stereo
Listen as we go
Nothing's gonna stop me now
California here we come
Right back where we started from
Pedal to the floor
Thinkin' of the roar
Gotta get us to the show
California here we come
Right back where we started from

California!
Here we come!

General Comment:I have lived in Christchurch New Zealand my whole life and if i could live any where it would be California! I have wanted to live there sinic I was nine and first stared whatching the OC. The beaches look awesome and I love how big the USA is. In NZ no matter where you are you could drive in any direction and in 8 hours or less your be at a beach coz it's so small. I love Calfornia coz there is so much to it.

General Comment:does noone else think this song is bout a band who made it returnin home (to california) for a show...?=]
"looking out for number one" - as in a hit...?
    "On the stereo,
    Listen as we go,
nothings gonna stop me now" - there own song comes on the radio as drive so the listen to it as they go and start to get excited about being home and playing where they "started from"
plus "gotta get us to the show" kinda backs that up<^^,>

General Comment:California has always represented hope in this country like since the idea of pioneers heading west in the early 1800's then especially with the Gold Rush, then later as Hollywood became the center of fame & fortune... The truth I think is that while it is a place of broken dreams it is also a place of incredible natural beauty and incredible people...IMHO this song is about that--how its home, really home, for many...

General Comment:I never heard this song I don't think. But i was just reading the comments and someone said whats so great about california, and what to people want to go here? I live here, in sacramento. Its the best place to live. just imagine. drive 90 minutes to get to the coast, and see some of the most beautiful things you've ever seen in your life. or drive 90 minutes east and go to the sierra-nevada mountains, to again, crazy beautiful scenes. and about living here in sacramento, its just great. I love it here.

General Comment:This song is about Phantom Planet as a band.

    We've been on the run,
    Driving in the sun,
    Looking out for number one.

It basically explains how they have been struggling to succeed. 'We've been on the run driving in the sun' ...they had to hit the road and 'promote' their band. 'Looking out for number one'... looking out for n.1 in the lists.

'California here we come, right back where we started from'... They had to leave, but now they come back with a 'name', right back where they started (they're from California).

General Comment:also to "LaBrees" im not trying to put you down but i seee this song more as saying BAD things about califoria, its more like he cant get outta there but he prob grew up there so he has some nostagia toward it. but if you look at the lyrics it never directly says anything good about califoria just that they want to go there.
